Clutch Masters Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel - 2009-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD (3.7L)

Getting a rattle out of the bellhousing at idle that disappears when you push the clutch in? That's the factory dual-mass flywheel in your TL wearing out, and they all do it eventually. Or maybe there's nothing wrong with yours and you just want that 3.7 to actually rev like it wants to. Either way, this Clutch Masters lightweight aluminum flywheel is the fix. It dumps a huge amount of rotating weight off the crank, and here's the part that makes it easy: it works with your factory clutch or a Clutch Masters kit, so you don't have to do everything at once.

Dumping The Dual-Mass Is The Real Win

Let's talk about what you're actually removing, because it's the whole story. Your TL came with a dual-mass flywheel, which is two flywheels sandwiched together with springs and dampers between them to quiet the driveline down. It works, but it comes at a serious price. Those units are heavy, often 30-plus pounds, and all that mass is bolted right to your crankshaft fighting every rev. Worse, the springs inside are wear items, so they fatigue, rattle, and eventually fail, and you can't resurface a dual-mass like a normal flywheel, so when it's done you're buying another expensive one.

Swapping to this aluminum single-mass unit ends all of that. There's nothing inside to break, it can be serviced, and you're pulling a genuinely big chunk of rotating weight off the engine. On a V6 as torquey as the J37, that weight loss is something you feel immediately, quicker revs, sharper throttle, and noticeably more eager mid-range. The car just feels awake.

Works With Your Factory Clutch, Too

This is the flexible part, and it's not something you can say about most conversion flywheels. This flywheel is compatible with both your OEM clutch and Clutch Masters clutch kits. So if your clutch is still healthy and you're only after the flywheel benefits, you can bolt this up and keep running your factory clutch. And when the clutch does eventually wear out, or when you decide you want more holding power, you can move up to a Clutch Masters kit without touching the flywheel again. Either path works, which makes this an easy part to buy now and build around later.

Honest Note: Aluminum Makes Some Noise

Straight talk before you order. Lightweight flywheels, and aluminum ones especially, produce more gear noise than the heavy factory piece. That's not a defect, it's just what happens when you remove mass and the damping that came with it. The dual-mass in your TL was specifically designed to hush that noise, so pulling it out means you'll hear more of your drivetrain than you used to, typically some gear rattle at idle. If you're building a car you want to feel sharp and alive and a bit of noise doesn't bother you, this is a great move. If you want your TL to stay whisper-quiet and completely factory in feel, this isn't the part for you. It's a fair trade, but you should know what you're trading.

The Replaceable Friction Surface

This is what makes an aluminum flywheel practical for the long haul. It's got a replaceable steel insert for the friction surface, so when it eventually wears you swap the insert instead of resurfacing or replacing the whole flywheel. Aluminum can't be cut and resurfaced the way steel can, so without that insert you'd be buying a whole new unit. With it, this flywheel keeps going through multiple clutches. That's real value on a part that isn't cheap up front.

How It's Made

Clutch Masters builds these in the USA, and the process shows. They're designed in CAD, then CNC machined in-house on Haas lathes from 6061 aluminum billet. After machining, each one is zero balanced so it's evenly weighted and spins perfectly true, which matters enormously on something bolted to your crank. Then it's Type 3 hard anodized for durability and corrosion protection, assembled and inspected by hand, and it's SFI 1.2 certified for motorsport use, so if your track or class requires certification, you're covered.

Fits These Cars

  • 2009-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD (3.7L, manual transmission)

Note: Clutch Masters lightweight aluminum flywheel for the 2009-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD (3.7L) with a manual transmission. This single-mass aluminum flywheel replaces the heavy factory dual-mass flywheel, removing the internal springs and dampers that wear out over time and cutting rotational mass for quicker revs and sharper throttle response. It is compatible with both the factory OEM clutch and Clutch Masters clutch kits. CNC machined in the USA from 6061 aluminum billet, zero balanced, and Type 3 hard anodized, with a replaceable steel insert friction surface that eliminates the need to resurface the flywheel. SFI 1.2 certified for motorsport use. Please note that a lightweight flywheel, and an aluminum flywheel in particular, produces more gear noise than a factory dual-mass flywheel, and may also affect clutch life expectancy depending on the application. One flywheel per order.
