Stock clutch starting to slip in your RSX Base or EP3 Si? On a K20 that gets revved as often as yours does, it's only a matter of time, and once it starts you'll feel the revs run away from you every time you get on it. This Clutch Masters FX100 kit puts a stop to that with about 70% more holding capacity than the factory clutch, and it does it without making your daily drive a chore. One thing you absolutely have to check first, though: this is the 5-speed kit only, so read the fitment part before you order.
Read First: 5-Speed K20A3 Only, Not The Type-S
This is the mistake that gets made constantly, so let's kill it right here. This clutch fits the 5-speed transmission behind the K20A3, and that's it. It does not fit the 6-speed transmission found behind the K20A2 or K20Z1. That means if you've got an RSX Type-S, this is not your clutch, and if you've swapped a 6-speed into your car, this isn't it either.
Here's the thing to remember: a clutch matches your transmission, not your chassis badge. An RSX Base and an RSX Type-S look nearly identical sitting next to each other, but they're running completely different gearboxes underneath. Same story with the EP3 Si, the USDM car came with the K20A3 and the 5-speed. So before you order, count your gears and confirm what's actually bolted to your engine. Five speeds behind a K20A3? You're in the right place. Six speeds? You need a different kit.
Built For A Bolt-On K20
Let's talk about whether this is the right level for your car. The FX100 is the streetable one in the range, aimed at a K20 that gets driven every day with the usual bolt-ons on it, an intake, an exhaust, a header, maybe a small shot of nitrous up to about 50 horsepower. For that car, it's dialed. You get enough extra clamping force that it quits slipping under your power, longer life than the factory clutch had, and none of the on-off brutality a race clutch would make you suffer through in stop-and-go. If you're going boosted or chasing real numbers, keep moving up the FX range, but for a clean bolt-on street car, this is the one.
Grippier, But Your Left Leg Won't Notice
Here's why it works so well as a daily. The Power Plus I heavy-duty pressure plate is where that 70% jump in holding capacity comes from, but the pedal only gets a touch heavier than stock, so nothing about your commute changes. And the steel-backed organic disc uses a Marcel spring wafer between the friction faces, which cushions the take-up. So instead of the clutch slamming in and chattering, it rolls in smooth and progressive every single time. You end up with a clutch that holds your power and still feels totally normal under your foot.
It Should Outlast Your Stock Clutch
That steel backing behind the organic friction material does two jobs, it adds strength and it helps the disc shed heat, and heat is what kills clutches. That's why these tend to outlive the factory unit while holding more power. Worth being straight with you, though, and Clutch Masters says the same: life isn't guaranteed, because a lot of it comes down to how it's installed, how you drive, how much power you're making, whether you did the break-in right, and whether you're running a lightweight flywheel. Do your part and it'll do its part.
