Multi-disc clutches hold enormous power and they're famously unpleasant in traffic. The pedal is heavy, engagement is abrupt, and a twin or triple disc setup can turn a fun car into one you'd rather not drive to work. This hydraulic bearing fixes a lot of that. It replaces the mechanical release system with a hydraulic one, which softens pedal effort and makes engagement considerably more consistent.

It Makes A Multi-Disc Clutch Livable

This is the practical reason to fit one, and it's a real change rather than a marginal improvement.

A conventional release system uses a clutch fork pivoting on a ball, pushing a release bearing. That's several moving parts, each with its own friction and wear, all in the path between your foot and the pressure plate.
