Boundary Billet Oil Pump Gears - L15B7 (2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T & Si)

Here's the part of your L15B7 nobody thinks about until it fails. The factory oil pump gears are sintered powdered metal, and sintered metal is brittle. On a stock car that's fine. Add boost, add rpm, add a tune, and you're asking a part with roughly 6,000 PSI of strength to survive loads it was never designed for. When an oil pump gear cracks, the engine goes with it. These Boundary gears are cut from billet steel that approaches 110,000 PSI yield strength, which is about 18 times stronger than what came out of your pump.

Why This Matters On A Turbo Motor

The 1.5T is one of the easiest engines Honda ever built to make power with. A tune and some bolt-ons and you're well past what the factory planned for, and that's exactly the situation where oil pump gears start living dangerously. More power means more oil demand and more load on the pump drive. More rpm means more stress cycles. Sintered metal doesn't fail gradually the way ductile steel does, it cracks, and it usually takes the bottom end with it on the way out.

This is cheap insurance on an engine you've already invested in. You're not buying horsepower here, you're buying the confidence to use the horsepower you already have.

Billet Steel Instead Of Powdered Metal

The difference is stark once you look at the numbers. Honda uses sintering because it's a cost-efficient process that holds tight tolerances, but sintered powdered steel is actually weaker than a casting, sitting around 6,000 PSI. Boundary starts with solid billet steel that approaches 110,000 PSI yield strength and cuts every tooth in-house. That's roughly an 18x improvement in the material itself, before you get to anything else they do.

They didn't guess at the metallurgy either. Boundary worked with metallurgists to land on the specific steel grade and heat treat combination, and every gear carries an HT number tracing it back to its original material specification sheet.

MartenWear Dual-Stage Heat Treat

Material is only half of it. These gears get Boundary's MartenWear dual-stage heat treatment, which is what qualifies them for operation above 9,000 RPM. Heat treat is what determines whether good steel stays good under sustained load and heat, and a dual-stage process gives you the surface hardness to resist wear along with core toughness so the gear doesn't go brittle. That's the combination that lets a gear survive real rpm rather than just surviving a dyno pull.

Flow-Tested And Warrantied For Life

Boundary validates every design on their own in-house flow bench, testing to 12,000 RPM before anything ships. They also hold two US patents on their gerotor and dual-rotor designs. And they back the whole thing with a lifetime warranty, which tells you what they expect these to do. Everything is machined in the USA.

Fitment

These gears fit the L15B7 engine found in the 2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T and Civic Si.

Who Should Run These Gears

This is for the 1.5T owner who's tuned the car, added boost, or is planning to. If your L15B7 is making more than Honda intended, the oil pump gears are one of the quietest weak points in the engine, and the failure mode is catastrophic rather than inconvenient. Do it while the pump is accessible, and stop thinking about it.

Fits: Honda L15B7, 2016-2021 Civic 1.5T and Civic Si. Part number: L15B7-OPG. Material: billet steel, approximately 110,000 PSI yield strength versus roughly 6,000 PSI for OEM sintered gears. Heat treat: MartenWear dual-stage, rated for operation over 9,000 RPM. Testing: flow-tested to 12,000 RPM. Warranty: lifetime. Made in the USA.
