BC Racing BR Series Coilovers - 1996-2000 Honda Civic (EK, Rear Fork)

Be honest, your EK probably already has coilovers on it. That's kind of the problem. These cars are pushing thirty and most have been through four owners, and somewhere along the way somebody bolted on a set of no-name sleeves off an auction site. Now the collars are rusted solid so you can't adjust the height anymore, the damping was never really damping to begin with, and the car crashes over every seam like a shopping cart. This BC Racing BR kit is what you buy when you're done with that, real coilovers that adjust, ride properly, and can be rebuilt instead of thrown away.

The Difference Between Coilovers And Sleeves

Not everything shaped like a coilover is one. The cheap stuff is usually a spring on a fixed, undersized damper that was never valved to match, so you get the drop and none of the control. The BR Series is a proper mono-tube shock with a linear piston and damping curve, developed alongside the spring it's paired with. That means the damping stays predictable through the whole stroke instead of falling apart at the edges, and you get 30 clicks of compression and rebound, adjusted together with one knob. Soft for the drive to work, firm for a canyon run or an autocross, and it takes about ten seconds a corner.

Height That Adjusts Without Wrecking The Ride

Here's what separates these from the sleeves that are probably on your car right now. Ride height adjusts independently of spring compression, so you set the height by moving the lower mount rather than crushing the spring down. Your suspension keeps its travel and the damper keeps working. That's the whole reason a properly set up EK can sit low and still ride decently, while the slammed one at every meet rattles its owner's teeth out. Same drop, completely different car.

Rates Chosen For An EK, Not Pulled Off A Shelf

This kit runs 9 kg/mm front and 4 kg/mm rear, which is BC's standard rate for the chassis. What matters is how they got there: BC tests each application and picks rates that balance comfort and performance instead of throwing the stiffest springs they've got at every car and letting you deal with it. On something as light as an EK that restraint really shows, you get genuine body control when you're pushing without the car punishing you the other 95% of the time. If you want something else, custom spring rates, Swift springs, and custom valving matched to your rates are all available.

Rear Fork Setup

Worth confirming before you order: this kit is built for the EK's rear fork setup, where the rear shock mounts through a fork rather than bolting straight to the arm. That's what came on your Civic from the factory, so for a stock-configured EK you're in the right place. Just double-check if the rear of your car has been swapped or modified by a previous owner, which on a car this age and this heavily modified is not a crazy thing to check.

Buy Them Once

This is the part that actually matters on a car you plan to keep. These are fully rebuildable. When they finally wear out years from now, you send them in and get them refreshed instead of buying another set, which is the exact opposite of the disposable sleeves that are currently seized to your EK. They're backed by a 2-year warranty against manufacturer defect too. Spend once, adjust forever.
