BC Racing BR Series Coilovers - 1988-1991 Honda Civic & CRX (EF)

Still riding on 35-year-old suspension in your EF? You already know how that feels, floaty, bouncy, and nowhere near what this chassis can actually do. The EF Civic and CRX are light, tossable little cars with double wishbones at all four corners, and they absolutely come alive on proper suspension. That's what this BC Racing BR Series kit is for. It's the most affordable way into real coilovers without giving up build quality or ride comfort, so you get height adjustment, 30 clicks of damping, and spring rates that were actually sorted for this car. This set uses RS type tophats with rubber mounting, so it's built to stay street-friendly.

Why This Beats Cheap Springs Every Time

Here's the part that matters, and it's exactly where budget setups fall apart. On the BR Series, your ride height adjusts independently of spring compression. That means you drop the car by moving the lower mount, not by squeezing the spring, so you keep your suspension travel and the damper keeps doing its job. That's the difference between a slammed EF that crashes over every seam and one that sits low and still rides great. Throw in 30 clicks of compression and rebound adjustment, dialed together with one knob, and you can tune the car to whatever you're doing that day, soft for the drive to work, firm for a back road or an autocross run.

Rates Sorted For A Light Car

This kit comes with 9 kg/mm front and 4 kg/mm rear springs, BC's standard rates for the EF. What's good here is that BC actually tests each application and picks rates that work, instead of dumping the stiffest springs on the shelf into every kit and leaving you oversprung and beat up. On a car as light as an EF, that restraint really pays off, you get genuine body control when you're pushing it without the car punishing you the rest of the time. Want something different? Custom spring rates and Swift springs are available, plus custom valving to match them.

How Low You Can Go

Straight numbers so you know what you're getting. Wound all the way up, the car sits about an inch below stock height, so it's already lower than factory even at the top of the range. All the way down, you're around 2.5 to 3 inches below stock. That's a wide, usable window, so whether you want a clean functional drop or you're going aggressive with it, you can land exactly where you want and fine-tune from there.

RS Type Tophats, Built For The Street

This set uses RS type tophats, which mount with rubber. Here's why you care: that rubber isolates noise and vibration from the road instead of transmitting it straight into the chassis, so you're not stuck listening to every bump and clunk while you drive. On a car you're actually driving on the street, that's a big deal, it keeps the whole setup livable and quiet without giving up the adjustability you bought coilovers for.

Real Coilovers, And You Can Rebuild Them

BC builds these right. You get a mono-tube shock design with a linear piston and damping curve, so the damping stays predictable through the entire stroke instead of falling apart at the edges. They come with a 2-year warranty against manufacturer defect, and here's the one that really matters long-term, they're fully rebuildable. So when they eventually wear out down the road, you send them in and have them refreshed instead of throwing them away and buying another set. That's the difference between an investment and a disposable part.
