The chassis-specific EG and EK versions are for the coupe. If you have an EG or EK sedan or hatchback, the door and mirror mounting differ from the coupe, so the universal version is the one for you. That opens these mirrors up to the whole EG and EK range, not just the two-door.

The universal version also handles custom setups. The most common is with a mirror block-off / delete plate, where you've removed the factory mirror entirely and are mounting a race mirror to a flat plate. That's a popular setup on track-focused builds like the DC5 RSX and EP3 Civic Si, run with block-off plates such as the Anointed Aero mirror plates.
