What It Is and Why It Works

This is aFe's Pro Dry S media: three layers of oil-free synthetic in aFe's gray. It flows nearly as well as the oiled cotton, filters finer, and never needs oil, which matters on a car with a mass airflow sensor that doesn't like over-oiled filters and on a daily where you just want to rinse it and go. aFe cuts the filter to the factory airbox dimensions with a full 360-degree polyurethane frame and a progressive bump seal that conforms to the airbox lip without a gasket, so it drops in where the paper filter was and seals the same way. The pleats are rounded and evenly spaced, which gives more usable media area than the factory panel for less restriction and more dirt capacity between cleanings. It's washable and reusable; clean it with aFe's Power Cleaner, no oil and it goes back in.

For the naturally aspirated 2.0L only. The 1.5T Civic, Si, and Type R use different filters. aFe's newer catalog also lists this part for the 2022 and up Civic 2.0L; the 11th gen airbox is a different housing, so confirm with aFe before ordering for one.

What to Know Before You Buy

Dry media is the safe pick on a MAF-equipped car because there's no oil to foul the sensor, and it's the one to buy if the car is serviced by whoever's around rather than by you. Clean it with aFe's Power Cleaner or mild soap and water, let it dry completely, and don't blow it out with high-pressure air from the dirty side. The oiled Pro 5R (30-10291) flows a little more and holds a little more dirt; on a stock 2.0L you won't feel the difference, so pick by maintenance. Not a cold air intake, no tune required.
