The 2.0L K20C2 in the base 10th gen Civic is the engine nobody modifies and everybody owns, and the one upgrade that costs nothing to live with is a reusable panel filter in the stock airbox. aFe's 30-10291 is the oiled Pro 5R version for the 2016-2021 Civic 2.0L: more flow than the paper filter, washable, and the last air filter the car needs.

What It Is and Why It Works

This is aFe's Pro 5R media: five layers of progressively finer cotton gauze, oiled, in aFe's blue. It's the higher-flow choice and the one that holds the most dirt between cleanings, at the cost of needing filter oil when you service it. aFe cuts the filter to the factory airbox dimensions with a full 360-degree polyurethane frame and a progressive bump seal that conforms to the airbox lip without a gasket, so it drops in where the paper filter was and seals the same way. The pleats are rounded and evenly spaced, which gives more usable media area than the factory panel for less restriction and more dirt capacity between cleanings. It's washable and reusable; clean it with aFe's Power Cleaner, no oil and it goes back in.

For the naturally aspirated 2.0L only. The 1.5T Civic, Si, and Type R use different airboxes and filters. aFe's newer catalog also lists this part for the 2022 and up Civic 2.0L; the 11th gen airbox is a different housing, so confirm with aFe before ordering for one.

What to Know Before You Buy

Oiled means oiled correctly: too much filter oil ends up on the MAF sensor and shows up as a rough idle and a lean code. Follow aFe's re-oil amount, let it sit, and don't drive it wet. If you'd rather not deal with oil at all, the Pro Dry S version (31-10291) is the same filter with dry media. Expect to clean it every 20,000 to 30,000 miles on a street car; a Louisiana summer of dust and pollen will shorten that. It's a filter, not a cold air intake; the gain is flow and reusability, not a dyno number.
