PRODUCT DETAILS
AEM Cold Air Intake 21-832C for Civic Type R
AEM 21-832C replaces the factory airbox and intake tube on the 2017-2020 Honda Civic Type R 2.0L turbo. You get a gunmetal aluminum tube, an oil-free Dryflow filter and a steel heat shield. You'll move your original mass airflow sensor into the AEM tube and connect the new assembly at the turbo inlet.
Choose it for the complete intake change
Choose the 21-832C if you're replacing the Type R's airbox and tube as a pair. The filter sits behind a heat shield in the engine bay; it isn't an enclosed replacement airbox. If you want to keep the stock housing, a panel filter is the more appropriate starting point.
The tube is mandrel-bent aluminum, finished in AEM's gunmetal gray powder coat. You're replacing the factory tube as well as opening up access to the filter. The washable filter uses synthetic media without oil, so filter service doesn't include re-oiling it. Order 21-2093DK when the element itself needs replacing. Stick with that part number when you need a new element; another red cone filter may look right without fitting this adapter.
| Part number | 21-832C |
| Application | 2017-2020 Honda Civic Type R, 2.0L turbo |
| Tube | Gunmetal gray powder-coated aluminum |
| Filter | Oil-free synthetic Dryflow, 21-2093DK |
| Supplied connections | Two couplers and five clamps |
| Sensor | Reuses the factory mass airflow sensor |
Save the rubber grommet from the stock airbox. You'll need it for the AEM heat shield. The new shield mounts with that grommet, AEM's rubber studs and the supplied bracket. Cut the edge trim to fit as you assemble it. Keep the old intake together so you've got the pieces if you decide to return to stock.
You'll change the covering on the MAF wiring during the swap. Take off the plastic harness holder, fit the supplied split loom and tape its ends with electrical tape. Move the sensor into the new tube with the supplied bolts. Leave the assembly loose until you've checked its position. Make sure the tube clears the surrounding parts and the hood, then tighten the mounts and clamps.
In the box you'll find the tube, filter, heat shield, filter adapter, couplers, clamps, mounting hardware, edge trim and harness cover. Read the full manual before starting, including its battery-disconnection precautions and checks after assembly.
Fitment and Use Limits
| Years | Make and model | Engine |
| 2017-2020 | Honda Civic Type R | 2.0L turbo |
For a Civic Si or another engine, choose the intake listed for that application. This kit's fitment is the 2.0L turbo Type R. Confirm the application before ordering for a 2021 car. AEM's instructions also exclude vehicles with a body lift.
AEM lists this intake as restricted for sale or use in California on pollution-controlled motor vehicles. Check the requirements where the car will be used before buying.
Dryflow Filter Care
Have a look at the element every 25,000 miles; check it sooner if you spend time on dusty roads. AEM gives 100,000 miles as a cleaning interval under suitable conditions, not a reason to ignore a dirty filter. If you can't see the screen through the dirt, it's due for cleaning already. Use a cleaner for synthetic Dryflow media and follow its directions. This element runs dry, so leave the oil out of the job.
Verified for 2017-2020 Honda Civic Type R 2.0L turbo. Excludes other Civic engines and body-lift vehicles; confirm 2021 application before purchase. California sale/use restriction applies to pollution-controlled motor vehicles.
Use the exact 21-832C instructions. Retain the factory mounting grommet for the heat shield, trim the edge seal, transfer the MAF sensor with supplied bolts, replace its plastic harness holder with the supplied split loom and tape the cover ends. Check pipe position, component and hood clearances before tightening and carrying out final checks.
