Action Clutch Stage 4 Clutch Kit - 2003 Acura CL Type-S (J32A2)
The Action Clutch Stage 4 (1MD) kit is the race-only step at the top of the range for the 2003 Acura CL Type-S. It pairs a heavy-duty single-diaphragm pressure plate and reinforced drive straps with an unsprung MIBA ceramic disc, available in 4-puck or 6-puck. Rated for 170% more holding capacity than the factory clutch, it's built for dedicated race cars that need maximum control and grip and don't have to compromise for daily-driver manners.
This One Is Not For The Street
Read this first, because it's the whole point of the Stage 4: this kit is intended for race applications, drag, road, and drift, and is not meant for street use. If your CL-S sees any daily driving, the Stage 3 or a lower stage is the right call. The Stage 4 exists for a car that goes to the track and comes home on a trailer.
Unsprung MIBA Ceramic Disc
The difference from the Stage 3 is the unsprung disc. Dropping the sprung center hub removes the springs that normally absorb driveline shock, which is what gives the Stage 4 its fastest, most direct engagement and lets it handle the abuse of race launches. The trade is harshness: engagement is sharp and on-off, you'll get noticeable chatter, and the drivetrain feels every bit of it. That's exactly what a race car wants and exactly why it's miserable on the street. Like any ceramic disc, the chatter minimizes after a proper break-in, but an unsprung ceramic disc is aggressive by design.
4-Puck Or 6-Puck
You can run the disc as a 4-puck or a 6-puck. The 4-puck is marginally easier to modulate off the line, while the 6-puck adds surface area for more holding capacity and a firmer grab. Both are aggressive race pucks, so pick based on your power level and launch style rather than any expectation of street comfort.
Works With Your OEM Dual Mass Flywheel
This kit is compatible with the factory OEM dual mass flywheel on the CL Type-S, so no flywheel replacement is required unless yours is already worn. You reuse the factory flywheel and step up the clutch. If your dual mass flywheel is worn or failing, handle it while you're in there, but a healthy one carries right over.

Break-In
Even a race clutch needs a proper break-in. Easy driving for the first several hundred miles lets the friction surfaces seat and heat cycle evenly, which settles the engagement as much as an unsprung ceramic disc will and builds its holding capacity. Avoid riding the clutch and don't hammer it before it's broken in, since repeated slipping works against that.

This limited one (1) year warranty offered by ACTION CLUTCH covers defects in material or workmanship in new ACTION CLUTCH products. This warranty extends to the original purchaser only and is nontransferable. Only consumers purchasing ACTION CLUTCH products from authorized ACTION CLUTCH retailers or resellers or through the ACTION CLUTCH website may obtain coverage under our limited warranties.
ACTION CLUTCH warrants this product against defects in material or workmanship as follows:
ACTION CLUTCH will replace at no charge for parts only that proves defective because of improper workmanship. If ACTION CLUTCH is unable to provide a replacement and repair is not practical or cannot be made in a timely fashion, ACTION CLUTCH may elect to refund the purchase price in exchange for the return of the product.
Action Clutch offers a 1 (one) year warranty from the original date of purchase. We also offer a 30-day return policy with a 20% restocking fee.
Our warranty does not cover any problem that is caused by:
(1) Conditions, malfunctions or damage not resulting from defects in material or workmanship. (2) Conditions, malfunctions or damage resulting from (1) normal wear and tear, improper installation, improper maintenance, misuse, abuse, negligence, accident or alteration. (3) Accessories, connected materials and products, or related products not manufactured by ACTION CLUTCH. (4) Damaged input Shaft causing HUB to strip (5) Failure to resurface the flywheel will invalidate Warranty.
Please Note: ACTION CLUTCH will not be liable for labor charges and other intangible or consequent losses that might be claimed as a result of the failure of any part, nor shall they be liable for damages or injury to any persons or property resulting from the misuses or improper installation of any part subject to this warranty.
Our limited warranties are void if a product is returned with removed, damaged or tampered labels or any alterations (including removal of any component or external cover).
ACTION CLUTCH will not provide any warranty coverage unless claims are made in compliance with all terms of the controlling warranty statement included with your product and you follow proper return procedure. To request warranty service, you will need to provide:
- The sales receipt or other evidence of the date and place of purchase.
- A description of the problem.

When warranty service is completed, any repaired or replacement product or part will be returned to you postage prepaid.
