ACT Clutch Discs for 1990-1991 Acura Integra

ACT gives you organic and ceramic replacement discs for the matching 1990-1991 Integra B18A1 manual clutch. Choose the lining, hub and disc design for the way you drive the car. You're buying one 220 mm disc here, so check the pressure plate and flywheel you're keeping before deciding that's all the job needs.

Sprung for the car you drive every day

For an Integra that has to get you through traffic as well as the fun drives, we'd choose the sprung 3000111 as the starting point. ACT's center uses springs, bushings and cone springs for frictional damping. It describes smooth engagement with OE to mild gear rattle. That's still a range of noise, rather than a promise that you'll hear none.

Don't let the rest of the clutch work against the feel you're buying the sprung disc for. You'll need enough torque capacity from the complete assembly, but we'd also look at how the selected pressure plate and flywheel suit your driving. You can want capacity for a modified B18A1 without wanting every stoplight to feel like the start of a race.

What changes with the rigid hub

The rigid 3000119 has a heat-treated chromoly hub in place of the sprung center. You're still getting organic lining, not ceramic pads. ACT recommends it for high-horsepower street or race use and describes smooth engagement and quicker shifts. Its notes also call out increased gear rattle and possible increased spline wear, so we'd include those in the decision before you order.

At 2.4 lb, the rigid disc is only a tenth of a pound lighter than the 2.5 lb sprung disc. We wouldn't choose it for a commute car on that difference alone. Choose it because the rigid hub fits your plan for the assembly and you're willing to live with ACT's stated trade-offs. If keeping the car quiet matters more to you, stay focused on the sprung option.

ACT MPN Hub Material / design Disc weight
3000111 Sprung Organic / Full face 2.5 lb
3000119 Rigid Organic / Full face 2.4 lb
6220012 Rigid Ceramic / 6 pad 2.5 lb
4220112 Sprung Ceramic / 4 pad 2.6 lb
4220012 Rigid Ceramic / 4 pad 1.9 lb

Look at the lining as well as the center

You don't have to give up the organic material to choose the rigid hub. Both options use copper-bearing linings backed by steel: ACT uses the copper for heat transfer and the backing for burst strength. The sprung 3000111 also has heat-treated wraparound spring windows to support its springs and reduce stress concentrations. That's a construction detail to look for when you're comparing another sprung disc.

The two discs use a reduced marcel for quicker shift action. That's the cushion between the friction linings, separate from the springs in the hub. If you're measuring a used organic disc, compress that cushion fully as ACT instructs. Otherwise your thickness reading won't be the measurement ACT says to use.

When we'd choose a ceramic disc

For the street-driven Integra, our first choice would still be the organic sprung disc. The ceramic options make a different compromise: ACT specifies high heat tolerance and quicker shifts, but the engagement is aggressive. Decide whether you need that behavior before choosing the hub or counting pads. A sprung ceramic disc doesn't give you the organic disc's engagement.

The six-pad 6220012 has a rigid, heat-treated chromoly hub. ACT warns of increased gear rattle and possible increased spline wear. Its individual listing recommends high-horsepower street or race use, while ACT's general race-disc FAQ says racing only. If you want it for the street, ask ACT to resolve that conflict before ordering. We wouldn't treat the street recommendation as a promise of comfortable takeup in traffic.

Both four-pad discs are recommended for racing only. The sprung 4220112 keeps springs in the center and uses wraparound spring windows, thicker retainers and a heat-treated spring-steel drive plate. ACT lists its gear noise as OE to mild rattle. The rigid 4220012 removes the sprung center, uses a heat-treated chromoly hub and carries the increased-rattle and possible-spline-wear warnings.

If you're choosing between the two four-pad discs for a race car, compare the hubs as well as the weight. The rigid disc weighs 1.9 lb against 2.6 lb for the sprung one. That difference doesn't establish a measured improvement in your car, and it doesn't tell you how the complete clutch will feel. Choose the hub for the assembly and the compromises you're willing to accept.

The early Integra hub-size difference

For the matching 1990-1991 cable-transmission assembly, ACT lists a 1-inch, 24-spline input specification. Its 1992-1993 Integra entry uses a different disc with a 1 1/32-inch specification. You can have the same spline count and still have the wrong hub size. Don't let a broad B-series search choose the disc for you.

If you've swapped the gearbox, have your installer identify its input-shaft fit before ordering. The year on the car won't resolve that change. Give them the pressure-plate and flywheel part numbers too, so you're checking the assembly rather than just whether the disc slides onto the shaft.

You may have seen 3000111 or 3000119 listed in an ACT AI2 kit. That doesn't give the loose disc every AI2 kit's torque rating. The pressure plates differ, and you need the capacity for the combination actually going in your car. If you've bought the full kit already, check the box before ordering a second disc.

When buying just a disc makes sense

We'd buy just a disc only after the installer has checked the parts you want to reuse. A serviceable pressure plate and flywheel can make that a sensible repair. If either needs work, you'll want to know before you order. The flywheel face and step, plus the pressure plate's working thickness range, still have to match the job; fresh lining won't make damaged mating parts good again.

Have the release mechanism checked while the transmission is out and the cable adjusted when it goes back together. Otherwise you can finish with a new disc and a clutch that still won't release fully. For either organic disc, give ACT's street lining its 300-500 miles of mild street-driving break-in without excess slipping or heat. If you've got an event coming up, leave yourself time for that drive as well as the work.

For a ceramic disc, use the instructions for that exact part. Don't borrow the organic disc's break-in procedure. Kit torque ratings belong to the pressure plate and disc combination ACT specifies; neither the pad count nor a generic friction-material percentage gives a loose disc its own torque capacity.

Verify the matching early Integra cable-transmission assembly, pressure plate, flywheel face and step, disc thickness and cable/release adjustment. For either organic disc, follow ACT's 300-500 miles of mild street-driving break-in without excessive slipping or overheating. Use the exact ceramic disc's instructions rather than transferring the organic break-in procedure.
