SpeedFactory Coil On Plug Adapter Plate - B Series VTEC
So you've built your B-series VTEC up and now the factory ignition's the thing holding you back. That's a super common spot to land. Those OEM distributor igniters are weak once you start making real power, they get flaky, the spark goes inconsistent, and you end up with misfires right when you're leaning on the motor the hardest. That's why everybody building these cars ends up going coil-on-plug. You put a dedicated coil right on each plug and the weak igniter headache just goes away. But here's the catch, you can't bolt modern coils onto a B-series VTEC without something to mount them to. That's this plate. SpeedFactory machines it out of billet aluminum and it bolts right on top of your valve cover, adapting OEM-fitment K-series coils to your engine. It's the piece that turns a COP swap from a fab project into a bolt-on.
Why You Go Coil On Plug In The First Place
Your factory ignition was fine back when the car was stock. It's not anymore. Once you add boost or you're spinning the motor to the moon, that one little coil and the igniter running it just can't keep up. The spark gets weak, and a weak spark under high cylinder pressure is how you get misfires and lost power exactly where you built the car to make it. COP fixes the whole thing. Every cylinder gets its own coil firing a full, strong spark every single time. You get rock-solid ignition, you ditch the igniter that keeps letting you down, and you stop chasing ignition gremlins. On a serious B-series it's one of the best moves you can make, and this plate's what gets you there.
Billet, Machined, And It Just Bolts On
Here's where SpeedFactory does it right. They machine this plate out of billet aluminum, so it sits flush on your valve cover and drops the coils exactly where they belong. No bending up brackets, no praying everything lines up, no hacking. It's done for you. The black anodized finish looks clean in the bay and shrugs off heat without corroding. It's built to run OEM-fitment K-series coils, and do yourself a favor here, run the OEM Denso 30520-RRA-007 coils with it. That's the combo that actually works right and keeps working, and it's what SpeedFactory recommends.
What Else You're Gonna Need
This plate's a key piece, but it's not the whole conversion, so let's be straight about what goes with it. You're moving the spark job off the distributor, but you still need the distributor housing for its internal sensors, so you'll want the SpeedFactory Billet Distributor Cap Delete to seal that off clean once the cap and igniter come off. And something's gotta actually fire those coils, that's the Hondata Coil Pack Retrofit, it swaps the stock coil and ignition for a circuit that drives individual coils on a distributor-based engine. Just know the Hondata CPR needs a Hondata S300 and a US OBDI ECU to run. None of that's bundled here, this page is the adapter plate, plain and simple. But those are the other pieces that finish the job and they're each on their own page.
What You Get
- SpeedFactory Coil On Plug Adapter Plate
- Fits B-series VTEC engines
- CNC machined billet aluminum
- Black anodized finish
- Bolts atop the B-series VTEC valve cover
- Adapts OEM-fitment K-series ignition coils
- OEM Denso ignition coils recommended for best results
Note: SpeedFactory Coil On Plug Adapter Plate for B-series VTEC engines. CNC machined from billet aluminum with a black anodized finish. Bolts atop the B-series VTEC valve cover to adapt OEM-fitment K-series ignition coils for a coil-on-plug (COP) conversion, replacing the failure-prone factory distributor igniter for stronger, more reliable spark at higher power. OEM Denso ignition coils recommended for best results. This page is for the adapter plate only - a complete COP conversion also needs the SpeedFactory Billet Distributor Cap Delete (seals the distributor while keeping its internal sensors) and the Hondata Coil Pack Retrofit (CPR), which drives the individual coils and requires a Hondata S300 system and US OBDI ECU. Those are sold separately. COP conversion questions: call (253) 566-4331 or email sales@speedfactoryracing.net. Off-road use only. One adapter plate per order.
