Energy Suspension Differential Bushings - 2000-2009 Honda S2000

The factory differential bushings on the S2000 are soft rubber, and under power they let the diff move around, which shows up as wheel hop, clunk, and power delivery that feels a beat behind your right foot. These Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings lock the differential down. The result is a rear end that puts power to the ground cleanly and predictably, exactly what you want on a car as rear-drive and rev-happy as the S2000.

What The Soft Factory Bushings Cost You

Worth understanding, because it's a real handling issue on these cars.

The differential is held in place by bushings, and Honda made them soft rubber for comfort and noise isolation. The problem is that soft rubber lets the diff physically move under load, it shifts on hard acceleration and deceleration rather than staying put.

That movement is what you feel as vague power delivery and, in worse cases, wheel hop, where the diff and axles load and unload against the compliant bushings. On a car being driven hard, or launched, that compliance robs you of the clean, immediate connection between throttle and rear wheels that the S2000 should have.

What Poly Fixes

Firming up the diff mount solves it directly.

Energy Suspension's Hyper-Flex polyurethane is far firmer than the factory rubber, so it holds the differential in position instead of letting it wander. Power delivery becomes more immediate and predictable, wheel hop is reduced, and the whole rear end feels tighter and more connected under load.

Unlike rubber, poly also doesn't degrade and soften the way the factory bushings have over 15-plus years, so it holds that firmness for the long haul rather than gradually going vague again.

Some Added Feedback, Not Harshness

Being straight about the tradeoff, since firmer bushings usually mean more NVH.

Locating the diff more firmly does transmit a little more noise and vibration than the isolating factory rubber did, that's the nature of any poly bushing. But Energy Suspension's material is formulated to reduce vibration and noise compared to lesser poly, so it's a modest increase, not a harsh one.

For a driver's car like the S2000, most owners consider that added feedback a fair trade, or even a positive, for the sharper power delivery. It's the good kind of feel, the drivetrain talking to you, rather than harshness for its own sake.

Reuse Your Metal Shells

The key install detail, because it catches people out.

These bushings are the polyurethane inserts, and you retain the existing outer metal shells from your factory bushings for proper fitment. You're not pressing in complete new bushings with shells, you're pressing the poly into the shells that are already there.

So don't destroy or discard the outer shells when you remove the old rubber, you need them. Plan the removal knowing the shell stays and only the rubber comes out. Getting this wrong is the most common way this install goes sideways.

Red Or Black

Two colors, and it's purely a look, the material and performance are identical.

Red (16.1112R) is the visible, sporty choice if the bushings are somewhere you'll see them or you just want the color.

Black (16.1112G) is the subtle option that blends in.

Both are the same Hyper-Flex polyurethane with the same performance, so pick whichever finish you prefer.

Fitment

2000-2009 Honda S2000 (AP1, AP2, including CR)

Rear differential mount. Part numbers: 16.1112R (red), 16.1112G (black). Reuse existing metal shells.

Who Should Grab These

This is for the S2000 owner who wants cleaner, more immediate power delivery and less wheel hop, and who's noticed the rear end feeling vague or clunky under load, often just worn-out factory bushings on a car this age. Firmer poly that holds the diff in place, formulated to keep the NVH increase modest, in your choice of color. Reuse your metal shells, press them in, and connect the throttle to the rear wheels the way it should be.

Fits: 2000-2009 Honda S2000 (including CR). Location: rear differential mount. Material: Hyper-Flex polyurethane. Part numbers: 16.1112R (red), 16.1112G (black). Benefit: reduces differential movement for sharper power delivery and less wheel hop. Install note: retain and reuse existing outer metal shells.
