PRODUCT DETAILS

Genuine Honda K-Series Pilot Bushing (22103-PNA-003)

The pilot bushing is the small part that gets forgotten during a clutch job and causes problems later. It supports the end of the transmission input shaft, keeping it aligned and spinning true, and it's buried behind the flywheel where it's only reachable with the transmission out. Not every clutch kit includes a new one, so it's easy to reuse the old one and not think about it, until a worn bushing starts causing shifting trouble or chewing up the input shaft. This is the genuine Honda replacement, and it's the one you want fresh any time the transmission's out.

Why It Matters, And Why It Gets Skipped

The pilot bushing sits in the center of the flywheel (or crank) and cradles the nose of the transmission input shaft. Its job is to hold that shaft centered and let it spin smoothly. When it wears, the input shaft can wobble slightly, and that shows up as a notchy or difficult shift (especially into first or reverse at a stop), gear grind, or a bearing-like noise, and over time it accelerates wear on the input shaft and the transmission itself.

The reason it gets overlooked is simple: a lot of clutch kits don't include a pilot bushing, so unless you specifically buy one, there isn't a fresh one in the box. People do the clutch, reuse the old bushing because it's "probably fine," and end up with a shift problem or going back in later. On a part that's only accessible with the transmission removed, that's the worst thing to skip.

Replace It With Your Clutch

This is the rule with a pilot bushing: do it whenever the transmission's out.

The labor to pull the transmission is the expensive, time-consuming part of a clutch job, and the pilot bushing is right there, exposed, once you're in. A fresh bushing costs a few dollars; going back in to replace a worn one you reused costs you the entire transmission-removal labor a second time. So any time you're doing a clutch, a flywheel, or any transmission-out work, fit a fresh pilot bushing while you have the access. It's the definition of cheap insurance.

Genuine Honda, Manual Only

This is the OEM Honda part, a direct replacement made to the correct spec and fit, so the input shaft is supported exactly as it should be, no guessing on dimensions or material with an aftermarket piece.

Note that pilot bushings only exist on manual transmission cars, an automatic doesn't have one. So this applies to the manual-equipped versions of the vehicles below.

Manual transmissions only. Part number 22103-PNA-003. Genuine Honda, direct replacement.

If you're doing a clutch, a flywheel, or any job with the transmission out of a manual K-series Honda or Acura, replace the pilot bushing while you're in there, it's the small part that's easy to forget and expensive to go back for. Genuine Honda, correct fit, and cheap insurance against a notchy shift or a worn input shaft. Don't reuse the old one to save a few dollars; do it once, do it right.
