SpeedFactory 1000HP Vertical Flow Intercooler Same Side

Once a K-swapped EG, EK, or DC2 gets serious about boost, the intercooler stops being an afterthought. The SpeedFactory 1000HP vertical flow intercooler for K-series builds puts a 27 inch by 6 inch face on a 4.5 inch thick bar and plate core, and it exists for one reason: keep charge air cold and spool quick on a K20 or K24 that has real power goals.

What It Is and Why It Works

A vertical flow core turns the charge path on its side. Air enters one tank, runs through the core vertically, and exits the other, so the end tanks stay small and the charge piping stays short. Less internal volume means the turbo builds boost sooner, which matters when you are trying to leave hard on a drag radial instead of waiting on a lazy front mount to pressurize. SpeedFactory rates this core at 1000 horsepower, per manufacturer, and builds each unit with hand formed H-3 5052 aluminum end tanks, fully TIG welded. The long core fills the bumper opening on most Honda and Acura chassis, so you get real frontal area and a clean look instead of a stubby core hiding behind half the opening.

This is the same side version, part number SF-06-098, with the 3 inch inlet and 3 inch outlet exiting the same side of the core. Run it when your turbo and throttle body plumbing live on the same side of the bay; it keeps every charge pipe short and leaves the opposite side open for a tucked radiator, filler neck, or wiring. If your layout wants the inlet and outlet on opposite corners, SpeedFactory builds the identical core with opposing side tanks as SF-06-098-2, and we carry that one as well.

Year Make Model Trim Engine
All Honda Universal, turbo builds All K20, K24 design target
All Acura Universal, turbo builds All K20, K24 design target

This is a universal race part sized for K-series Honda and Acura chassis. SpeedFactory states it will fit most Honda and Acura applications with slight modification, so treat every install as a custom fit, not a bolt-in.

What to Know Before You Buy

This is a race intercooler, not a bolt-on kit. No charge piping, couplers, or clamps come in the box, and most chassis need some fabrication: trimming behind the bumper, hanging the core off the welded M8x1.25 bungs, and building pipes to suit your turbo placement. Have your fabricator on board before you order. Pick your orientation first too, because same side and opposing side are different part numbers, not a swappable fitting. If you want Vibrant Vanjen flanges welded on in place of the standard bead rolled ends, contact us before placing the order since they are added when the intercooler is built. Be honest about the power goal as well: under roughly 800 horsepower the SpeedFactory 800HP vertical flow unit is lighter and cheaper, and combos headed past 1000 horsepower belong on the HPX dual backdoor front mount instead. While you are here, grab 3 inch couplers and T-bolt clamps so the car is not sitting on the lift waiting for hose.
