Genuine Honda CV Joint Grease (08734-0101) - 30g

If your CV joint is clicking on turns, or you're replacing a torn boot, the grease matters more than people think. This is the genuine Honda CV joint grease, the exact lubricant Honda packs into the constant-velocity joints on its factory axles, formulated for the heat, load, and full-lock articulation a CV joint sees. When you're servicing a Honda or Acura axle, this is what goes back in the joint, not a generic grease that may not play nice with Honda's boot material or joint clearances.

Why The Right Grease Matters In A CV Joint

A CV joint lives a hard life: it transmits power while articulating through its full range as the suspension moves and the wheels steer, all under load and heat. The grease inside is what keeps the bearings and races from wearing against each other, and it has to hold up to that heat and articulation without breaking down or flinging out.

Generic grease isn't always up to it, and worse, some generic greases aren't compatible with the rubber or thermoplastic CV boot material, they can degrade the boot from the inside, which leads to a torn boot, contamination, and a ruined joint. Honda's grease is formulated for its own joints and boots, so it protects the bearing surfaces and stays compatible with the boot. On a part where getting it wrong means a clicking, dying axle, the right grease is cheap insurance.

The Clicking CV Joint

The classic sign of a failing CV joint is a clicking or popping sound when you turn, most noticeable on tighter turns or during acceleration through a corner. That clicking is the joint's bearings worn and loose, usually because a torn boot let the grease escape and dirt and water in, which destroys the joint.

Catch a torn boot early, before the joint starts clicking, and you can clean the joint, repack it with fresh grease, and fit a new boot, saving the axle. That's exactly the job this grease is for: repacking a joint during a boot replacement before damage sets in. Once a joint is clicking, it's usually too late for just grease and needs a reman or new axle, so the grease-and-boot fix is about catching it in time.

The Right Amount For One Joint

This is a 30g (1.05 fl oz) tube, which is the correct fill for one OEM-style inner or outer CV joint. That takes the guesswork out, you're not estimating how much to pack from a big tub, or short-filling the joint and leaving it under-lubricated. One tube, one joint, the right amount.

For a full boot replacement job you'll want one tube per joint you're servicing, so plan your quantity around how many boots you're doing. Each torn boot that gets a fresh boot also gets a fresh tube of grease.

When You Need This

A few scenarios bring people to this grease:

CV boot replacement. You found a torn or cracked boot and you're replacing it before the joint goes. Clean the old grease out, repack with this, fit the new boot.

Axle rebuild. You're rebuilding an axle and repacking the joints with fresh grease as part of it.

Reusing or servicing axles on a swap. On a swapped chassis where you're reusing axles, repacking the joints with correct grease while you have them apart is good insurance on components you don't want failing after the build's done.
