Wunderladen Racing Coolant Expansion Tank - 2016-2026 Honda Civic / Acura Integra Type S
Here's the thing about the factory coolant expansion tank on these cars. It's plastic, and plastic doesn't love getting heat cycled over and over. Wunderladen Racing started seeing these factory tanks fail from all that heat cycling, and once you've seen a coolant tank crack and dump coolant you understand why you don't want to be that person stuck on the side of the road. So they built a tank that doesn't have that problem. This is an all-aluminum coolant expansion tank for your 10th or 11th gen Civic or your Integra Type S, and they didn't cut corners anywhere on it. It's welded aluminum so it's leakproof. It's got a triple baffle system inside to bleed air out of your cooling system and keep it out. And it's got a billet sightglass that actually tells you your coolant level instead of leaving you guessing. If you're tired of worrying about your plastic tank giving up, this is the upgrade.
Why You Don't Want To Trust The Factory Plastic Tank
Your engine heats up and cools down every single time you drive. That's heat cycling, and it's brutal on plastic over time. The factory expansion tank handles it fine for a while, but eventually the plastic gets brittle and it starts to crack. When it goes you lose coolant, your engine overheats, and now you've got a much bigger problem than a cracked tank. If you're tracking the car or running more power the heat's even harder on it. An aluminum tank just doesn't have that weakness. It takes the heat cycling without getting brittle, so you're not sitting there wondering when the factory tank's going to let go.
All-Aluminum And Built To Actually Last
This tank is one-piece welded aluminum. No seams that work loose, no plastic to crack, just a solid leakproof tank. Inside there's a triple baffle system welded in. That matters more than it sounds like it should. The baffles help the tank pull air out of your coolant and keep that air from getting sucked back into the engine once it's separated out. Air in your cooling system is bad news, so a tank that bleeds it properly is doing real work. You bolt this on and you stop thinking about your expansion tank, which is exactly what you want from a part like this.
The Sightglass Is The Part You'll Love
Wunderladen wasn't happy with any of the sightglass options out there, and honestly they had a point. The external tube ones are prone to leaking. The little round window units only tell you whether the coolant's above that one spot, not your actual level. So they machined their own billet sightglass that shows you the coolant level across the entire height of the tank. One look and you know exactly where you stand. And here's the part that shows they thought it through. The whole sightglass is serviceable. If it ever starts to leak or the window gets tarnished from coolant you just replace the o-ring and re-polish or swap the window. You're not throwing out the whole tank over a cloudy window. That's the kind of detail you appreciate down the road.
-10 ORB Fittings - Plug And Play, No Restriction
The tank uses large -10 ORB barb fittings. Two things you should know about that. First, it makes the tank plug and play whether you've got a 1.5T, the NA 2.0L, or a Type R, so it works with your car as it sits. Second, fittings this big mean there's no restriction in the hose barbs compared to the factory tank. The o-rings that seal these ORB fittings are about the most reliable way to seal a connection, so you're looking at years of leakproof use. A new 1.1 bar pressure cap comes included so you've got everything you need.
Pick Your Finish And Fitment
You can get the tank in wrinkle black powder coat or raw aluminum, so go with whatever fits your engine bay. The wrinkle black looks clean and understated, the raw aluminum shows off the welds and the build quality. The tank comes in two fitments split between Sport/Si and Type R, so make sure you grab the one for your specific car. The Sport/Si fitment covers the 1.5T and NA 2.0L cars, and the Type R fitment covers the 2.0T Type R and Integra Type S.
