Mishimoto 1/2 Inch Drive 5 Piece Wheel Nut Socket Set

You're doing a wheel swap in your driveway and you're digging through your tool box trying to find the right socket for your lug nuts. You've got a pile of chrome sockets sitting on the ground and you're test-fitting each one until you find the 19mm. Then you finally get the socket on the lug nut and you're cranking it off and the chrome socket's scraping the finish on your aftermarket wheels. Now you've got scratches around every lug hole. Mishimoto's wheel nut socket set fixes both of those problems. You get five sockets in the most common lug nut sizes: 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, and 22mm. That covers pretty much every Honda, Acura, and most other cars on the road. The sockets are color-coded so you can grab the right size in two seconds without test-fitting every socket in your tool box. Each socket's also got a plastic protective sleeve that sits between the metal socket and your wheel. The sleeve prevents scratches and dings on your wheel finish. You're loosening and tightening lug nuts without trashing your wheels. This is a 1/2 inch drive set so it works with your breaker bar and your torque wrench.

Here's Why Color-Coded Sockets Actually Matter

If you've got a big tool box full of chrome sockets, you know how annoying it is to find the right size. All chrome sockets look the same. You're squinting at the size markings stamped into the side of the socket or you're just grabbing sockets and test-fitting them on the lug nut until one fits. That takes time and it's frustrating when you're trying to swap wheels quickly. Mishimoto color-codes these sockets. Each size gets a different color. 15mm is one color, 17mm is another color, 19mm is another, and so on. You look at your lug nut, you know you need 19mm, you grab the socket that's the corresponding color, and you're done. No squinting at size markings. No test-fitting five different sockets. You grab the right one the first time. If you're swapping wheels at the track or you're doing a quick tire rotation in your driveway, color-coded sockets save you time.

Plastic Sleeve Protects Your Wheel Finish

The real value in these sockets is the plastic protective sleeve. Each socket's got a plastic outer sleeve that covers the metal part of the socket. When you put the socket on your lug nut, the plastic sleeve sits against your wheel. Metal never touches your wheel finish. If you're running aftermarket wheels with a painted finish, powder-coated finish, or polished aluminum, you don't want metal sockets scraping against them. Chrome sockets will scratch paint. They'll ding powder coat. They'll scuff polished aluminum. We've seen wheels with scratches and dings around every lug hole because someone used regular chrome sockets and wasn't careful. The plastic sleeve prevents that. You can torque your lug nuts down to 80 or 90 ft-lbs without worrying about damaging your wheels. The sleeve's also impact-rated so you can use these sockets with an impact gun if you're working in a shop or you've got a cordless impact wrench.

Covers the Five Most Common Lug Nut Sizes

Mishimoto includes five sockets: 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, and 22mm. That covers almost every car on the road. Most Hondas and Acuras use 19mm lug nuts. Some older models use 21mm. Most aftermarket lug nuts are 17mm, 19mm, or 21mm. European cars use 17mm or 19mm. Domestic cars use 19mm, 21mm, or 22mm. You've got all of those covered in one set. The only common size that's missing is 23mm but that's pretty rare. If you've got a random older car with 23mm lug nuts, you'll need to buy that socket separately. But for 95% of cars, this set has what you need. The sockets are 1/2 inch drive. That's the standard size for lug nut work. You're using these with a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to loosen stubborn lug nuts or a 1/2 inch drive torque wrench to tighten them to spec.

1/2 Inch Drive Works with Your Existing Tools

These are 1/2 inch drive sockets. That means they fit on a 1/2 inch drive ratchet, breaker bar, or torque wrench. If you're doing wheels, you need a 1/2 inch drive setup. 3/8 inch drive tools don't have enough torque to break loose tight lug nuts and they're not strong enough for proper torque specs. 1/2 inch is the standard. You're using a breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts when the wheel's still on the ground. Then you jack the car up, pull the wheel off, put the new wheel on, thread the lug nuts on by hand, snug them down with a ratchet or impact gun in a star pattern, lower the car back down, and torque the lug nuts to spec with a torque wrench. Most cars call for 80-100 ft-lbs on the lug nuts. Some trucks and SUVs are higher. Check your owner's manual. Use a torque wrench. Don't just tighten them by feel with an impact gun or you'll either under-torque them and the wheel comes loose or you'll over-torque them and strip the studs.

What You Get

  • Mishimoto 1/2 inch drive wheel nut socket set (5 pieces)
  • Socket sizes: 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm
  • Color-coded for quick identification
  • Plastic protective sleeve on each socket (prevents wheel damage)
  • Impact-rated (safe for use with impact guns)
  • 1/2 inch drive (fits standard breaker bars and torque wrenches)
  • Chrome vanadium steel construction
  • Covers most common lug nut sizes for Honda, Acura, and other vehicles

Note: These are 1/2 inch drive sockets - you need a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar, ratchet, or torque wrench to use them. DO NOT use 3/8 inch drive tools for lug nuts - they're not strong enough and you'll break your tools or strip the lug nuts. The plastic sleeve protects your wheel finish from scratches and dings - especially important if you're running aftermarket wheels with painted, powder-coated, or polished finishes. These sockets are impact-rated so you can use them with a cordless impact gun or air impact wrench. When installing wheels, always torque lug nuts to your vehicle's spec (typically 80-100 ft-lbs for most cars) using a torque wrench. Tighten in a star pattern to ensure even pressure. Don't over-torque or you'll strip the studs or warp the rotors. Don't under-torque or the wheel can come loose. Color-coding makes it easy to grab the right socket quickly - useful for track days, tire rotations, or quick wheel swaps.
