Mishimoto Silicone Radiator Hoses - 92-00 Civic D Series

Your stock rubber radiator hoses are old and you're not sure how much longer they're going to last? They've been heating up and cooling down for twenty-plus years and the rubber's not going to hold up forever. We've seen plenty of D series Civics blow radiator hoses on the highway - usually the lower hose where it bends around to the water pump. The rubber gets brittle from heat cycles, it cracks, and then you're dumping coolant all over the road. Mishimoto's silicone radiator hose kit replaces those old rubber hoses with high-grade silicone that doesn't break down from heat. The silicone stays flexible at 330°F. Your coolant's only running around 190°F so you've got a massive margin before the material even starts to care. These hoses are built with dual layers - silicone on the outside and heat-resistant fibers embedded inside so they don't balloon when your cooling system's pressurized. They're a direct fit for your stock radiator or the Mishimoto aluminum radiator if you've upgraded. No trimming, no modifications. You're swapping hoses and you're done.

Here's Why Your Stock Hoses Are Going to Fail

The rubber radiator hoses on your Civic have been expanding and contracting every single time you've driven the car since the '90s. Heat the motor up, the rubber expands. Cool it down, the rubber contracts. Do that thousands of times and the rubber turns hard and brittle. It'll crack at the bends or right where it clamps onto the radiator and thermostat housing. Sometimes you'll see the hose get soft and squishy because the internal structure's breaking down. That's your warning it's about to blow. When a radiator hose lets go, you're losing all your coolant fast. Your temp gauge spikes, you're overheating, and if you keep driving you're warping your head or cracking your block. We've seen people keep driving after the temp light came on because they thought they could make it home. They didn't make it home - they made it to our shop on a tow truck with a blown head gasket. Don't be that person. Replace your hoses before they fail.

Silicone Doesn't Age Like Rubber

Mishimoto builds these hoses with two layers working together. The outer layer's high-grade silicone rated to 330°F. That's way hotter than your coolant ever gets so the silicone's not degrading from heat exposure. The inner layer's got heat-resistant fibers embedded in the silicone. Those fibers reinforce the hose so it can't balloon out when your cooling system's hot and under pressure. Old rubber hoses will swell up when the system's pressurized. You can actually watch them get fatter when the motor's hot. That swelling creates a weak spot that's going to rupture eventually. The embedded fibers in the Mishimoto hoses prevent that from happening. The hose stays the same diameter whether your motor's cold or it's hot and sitting at 15 PSI. Consistent diameter means consistent coolant flow and no weak spots waiting to blow out on you.

Direct Fit for Stock or Mishimoto Radiators

These hoses are designed to bolt right in where your stock hoses go. Same bend radius, same length, same connection points. If you're running a stock radiator, they fit. If you've upgraded to a Mishimoto aluminum radiator, they fit that too. You're not cutting anything or trying to make them work. Pull your old rubber hoses off, clamp the Mishimoto silicone hoses on, refill your coolant, burp the system, done. The kit includes your upper and lower radiator hoses - that's everything you need to replace the main cooling hoses on your D series motor.

Note: When you're doing this job, replace your hose clamps too. Don't reuse twenty-year-old clamps on brand new hoses - that's how you end up with leaks. Use new worm-gear clamps or spring clamps. After you've installed the hoses and refilled your coolant, you need to burp the cooling system properly or you're going to have air pockets trapped in there. Run the motor with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens and you see coolant circulating. Keep the revs around 2,000 RPM and watch for air bubbles coming up through the radiator neck. When the bubbles stop, top off the coolant and put the cap back on. Let the motor come up to operating temp and check every hose connection for leaks. If you're seeing any seepage at the clamps, snug them down another quarter turn. Silicone's slicker than rubber so the clamps need to be tight enough to grip. Don't overtighten and cut into the hose, but make sure they're not loose either.
