Honda FK8 Civic Type R Air Intake Box Seal - 17244-5BF-A01
You're converting your FK8 Type R back to stock intake or your airbox seal's torn up and you need a replacement? Part number 17244-5BF-A01 is the OEM air intake box seal that sits on top of the factory airbox and seals against the underside of the hood. This seal keeps hot engine bay air from getting sucked into your intake. When the seal's missing or damaged, you're pulling in hot air from the engine bay instead of cooler air from outside. Hot air's less dense and your engine makes less power. Fresh seal restores the proper airflow path and keeps your intake temps down. This seal's also used with a bunch of aftermarket intakes for the FK8 that retain the factory airbox location and need to seal against the hood.
Here's What This Seal Does
The FK8 Type R's intake system is designed to pull air from outside the engine bay through the front bumper opening. The airbox sits up high near the hood and this seal creates a barrier between the airbox and the hood. When you close the hood, the seal compresses and blocks off the engine bay. Air can only come in through the intended path from the front of the car. Without this seal, the intake's sucking in hot air from around the engine. Your intake temps go up and you're losing power. The ECU pulls timing when it sees high intake temps. You're making less boost, less power, and you might even get heat soak on hot days or after hard driving. The seal's a simple part but it matters for keeping intake temps where they should be.
Works with Stock Airbox and Many Aftermarket Intakes
If you installed an aftermarket intake years ago and you're going back to stock, this seal's part of the complete factory setup. A lot of people pull the stock airbox and toss the seal when they go aftermarket. When you're converting back to stock for resale, emissions testing, or because you realized the aftermarket intake wasn't worth it, you need this seal to make the stock system work right. If you bought a used FK8 and the previous owner lost the seal or it got torn up over the years, this is the replacement. The seal sits exposed on top of the airbox and it takes abuse from heat, oil vapor, and getting compressed every time you close the hood. Eventually it tears or gets brittle and falls apart. A lot of aftermarket intakes for the FK8 use this same seal because they mount in the factory airbox location. If your aftermarket intake uses the stock airbox mounting position and needs to seal against the hood, this OEM seal's what you need.
Comes Ready to Install with Clips Pre-Installed
This seal comes with all the mounting clips already installed. You're not hunting down separate clips or trying to figure out how they attach. The seal's ready to drop onto the airbox. Just position it on top of the airbox, press it down to seat the clips, and you're done. Close the hood and the seal compresses against the underside of the hood to create the barrier. Takes maybe two minutes to install. If your old seal's still on the airbox, pull it off first. The clips might be stuck in the airbox if the old seal's torn. Pop them out and clean the mounting surface before you install the fresh seal.

Note: This seal fits the factory FK8 Type R airbox and many aftermarket intakes that mount in the factory location. If your aftermarket intake's in a completely different location or doesn't need to seal against the hood, you don't need this. Make sure your airbox is clean before installing the seal. Remove the old seal if it's still attached and clean any residue off the airbox mounting surface. Press the new seal onto the airbox and make sure all the clips are seated properly. The seal should sit flat on top of the airbox. Close the hood and check that the seal's compressing against the hood. If there's a gap, the seal's not seated right or the clips aren't engaged.
