PRODUCT DETAILS

Competition Clutch Kit, 90-91 Integra

If the clutch in your 90-91 Integra is slipping on third-gear pulls, or you're just tired of a glazed DA disc that chatters off every light, the Competition Clutch kit for the 1990-1991 Acura Integra 1.8L (part family 8017) is the cable-clutch answer. You're on a DA chassis B18, not a 92-93 8027 car and not a hydraulic 94-01 8026 car, and you pick Stock (8017-STOCK), Stage 1.5 (8017-1500), or Stage 3 (8017-2600) based on how hard you actually drive.

What It Is and Why It Works

Stock (8017-STOCK) is Competition Clutch's OE-style replacement: an organic full-face disc and an OE-style pressure plate that match original torque capacity and factory pedal feel, per manufacturer. That's the kit you want when the car is stock or running basic bolt-ons and you just need a clutch that drives like Honda built it. It isn't a holding-power upgrade, and it doesn't pretend to be one.

Stage 1.5 (8017-1500) keeps the full-face organic disc and a stock-like pedal, but Competition Clutch rates it at about 30 to 40 percent more torque than stock. That's the street step up for a DA that's been driven hard or given intake, header, exhaust, and a tune. One hard rule from Competition Clutch: don't run Stage 1.5 with a turbo, supercharger, or nitrous. Stage 3 (8017-2600) is the 2600 Series street/strip kit, a segmented ceramic disc on a performance pressure plate, rated at up to a 150 percent increase over stock per manufacturer. Ceramic holds more heat than organic, so it won't glaze the way a stock disc does on repeated launches, but you'll feel a narrower bite and some chatter. That's the trade-off, not a defect.

Every 8017 kit includes the pressure plate, one disc, an alignment tool, a pilot bushing, and a throwout bearing. A flywheel is not included. Generic Stage 3 catalog copy that mentions a billet flywheel or a 250 mm plate is boilerplate. Trust the spec table: no flywheel ships in this box.

This kit is for the 90-91 DA Integra 1.8L with the factory cable clutch only. It doesn't fit the 1992-1993 Integra (that's the 8027 family, B17A / B18A), and it doesn't fit the 1994-2001 Integra (that's the hydraulic 8026 family). It also doesn't fit Honda Civic or CRX. If your Integra is a 92-up car, stop and order the matching family instead of hoping 8017 will bolt up.

What to Know Before You Buy

Be honest about the power plan before you click Stage 3. If the car is stock or lightly bolted on and you daily it, Stock or Stage 1.5 is the kit you'll actually like in traffic. Stage 3's segmented ceramic is for a DA that's making real heat at the strip or seeing boost. You'll get a firmer pedal, a narrower slip zone, and some low-speed chatter, especially in reverse. Most of that calms down after break-in, but it never fully goes away. That's ceramic, not a bad disc.

Take the 500-mile break-in seriously. Shift often, stay out of full-throttle launches, and let the friction material bed into the plate and flywheel. Skip it and you'll glaze the disc and blame the clutch. The flywheel isn't in the box, so have yours resurfaced or replace it while the transmission is out. A new disc on a glazed flywheel is how you buy this job twice.

While you're in there, inspect the clutch cable, the rear main seal, and the throwout arm. On a car this age those parts are usually original, and doing them now saves you from pulling the box again next month. If a turbo kit is anywhere in the build plan, buy Stage 3 for the car you're building, not Stock for the car you have today.

Competition Clutch install instructions require replacing or resurfacing the flywheel and replacing the pilot bearing or bushing. Clean rust inhibitor off friction surfaces before assembly. Use the alignment tool and confirm disc orientation. Do not over-grease the hub. Excess grease can damage the disc and void the warranty.

A 500 to 700 mile break-in with normal street driving is required per the manufacturer install sheet. Pedal or cable adjustment may be needed after install and again after break-in. Failure to follow the published install steps voids the warranty.

Competition Clutch publishes torque as a percent over stock, not as an absolute ft-lb figure. Stock matches original torque capacity. Stage 1.5 (1500) is about 30-40% over stock, full-face organic, not for forced induction. Stage 3 (2600) is segmented ceramic, up to 150% over stock per manufacturer.

Pressure plate, clutch disc, alignment tool, pilot bushing, and throwout bearing. Flywheel is not included.
