If you're building or refreshing a B16A or B18C engine for the track, time attack, or a hard street build, valve reliability under heat and high RPM is non-negotiable. Stock Honda intake valves are fine for a stock engine, but once you're running aggressive cams, forced induction, or sustained high-RPM use, they become the weak link. These Supertech Black Nitride Intake Valves are the go-to replacement for B-series builders who want a direct-fit, purpose-built valve that holds up where OEM parts give out.
Available in sets of 8 in standard size (5.0mm stem diameter, dished head) or +0.5mm oversize (5.5mm stem diameter, flat head). The oversize valves require seat machining - standard valves are a direct drop-in with no head work needed.
Why Black Nitride?
The black nitride surface treatment is not just a cosmetic finish. It increases surface hardness at the valve stem and face, reduces the friction coefficient versus bare stainless, and improves corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. Compared to chrome-coated valves, the Superfinished stem reduces surface roughness to roughly one-third, which translates to less guide wear over time and more consistent sealing across the valve's service life. Each valve tip is independently hardened beyond 52 HRc - significantly harder than OEM spec - which is critical if you're running high-lift cams with aggressive ramp rates.
Application-Specific Design
These are not generic blanks modified to fit. Each valve is forged and finished to dimensional tolerances for the B16A and B18C head specifically. Supertech validates airflow geometry and seat angle on an application-by-application basis, so the head diameter, seat angle, and stem-to-guide clearance are dialed in for this combustion chamber, not adapted from a universal profile. That matters for a ported head where tolerances are already tight.
