Supertech Block Guard - Honda D Series Engines
If you're building a high horsepower D series engine with boost, you need a block guard. The Supertech block guard fills the gap between the outside of your cylinder walls and the block, adding rigidity to prevent the walls from flexing and cracking under high cylinder pressure. This is what keeps your block from splitting when you're making serious power with a turbo or high compression. Supertech makes three versions of this block guard to fit D15/D16, D16ZC, and D17 engines.
Why You Need a Block Guard
Your D series block has open deck construction, which means there's a gap between the cylinder walls and the outer edge of the block. When you're running high boost or high compression, the cylinder pressure pushes outward on the walls. Without a block guard, the walls flex and eventually crack at the top of the block. A block guard fills that gap and adds rigidity, which stops the walls from moving and prevents cracks. If you're making big power, a block guard isn't optional.
Maintains Water Flow for Cooling
Supertech designed these block guards to allow adequate water flow through the block so your engine doesn't overheat. The guards are CNC machined with passages that let coolant reach critical areas and prevent hot spots around the cylinders. You get the rigidity you need without choking off coolant flow.
CNC Machined from 6061 Aluminum
Each block guard is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum alloy. The aluminum is strong enough to handle the loads but light enough to not add a ton of weight. It's also corrosion resistant, so it won't corrode even if you're running straight water or aggressive coolant mixtures.
Three Versions for Different D Series Engines
Supertech makes three versions of this block guard to fit different D series engines. Make sure you order the right one for your engine.
D15/D16 Block Guard
Fits D15B, D16Z, and D16Y engines. This is the most common version and works on the majority of D series blocks.
D16ZC Block Guard
Fits D16ZC engines specifically. The D16ZC has different deck height and cylinder spacing than standard D16 engines, so it needs its own block guard.
D17 Block Guard
Fits D17 engines found in 2001-2005 Civics. The D17 block is different from earlier D series blocks and requires this specific version.

Important: Block guards require machining and professional installation. You need to disassemble your engine, deck the block, install the block guard, and reassemble everything with a new head gasket. This is not a bolt-on part. Make sure you order the correct version for your specific D series engine.
