Wunderladen Racing Oil Heater Delete - 2016-2026 Honda Civic Type R FK8/FL5

You're tracking your Type R and the coolant temps are climbing into limp mode. You've probably already got an oil cooler and you're still fighting heat. Here's something a lot of people don't realize. From the factory the K20C1 has an oil heater built into the engine. It runs both coolant and oil through it so the oil warms up faster on cold starts. That's fine on the street. But once the engine's up to temp that same heater flips the problem around. Now your coolant is pulling heat out of the oil and dumping it into a cooling system that's already maxed out. On track that's the last thing you want. The Wunderladen Racing Oil Heater Delete kills that coolant circuit. It uses the same oil cooler housing as their oil cooler kit but it comes with plugs for all the ports. Oil still flows through the housing but the coolant side is sealed off. You're taking that extra thermal load off your cooling system so your coolant temps come down and you stay out of limp mode longer.

Here's What The Factory Oil Heater Is Doing To You On Track

The factory oil heater sounds helpful and on a cold morning it is. It gets your oil up to temp quick by sharing heat with the coolant. The problem shows up once everything's hot. Now the oil's making heat and the coolant's trying to carry that heat away on top of cooling the engine itself. The FK8 and FL5 cooling systems already struggle to keep coolant temps in check when you're pushing hard. Add the oil's heat load on top and the temps spike. The car throws you into limp mode to protect itself and your session's done. Deleting the heater's coolant circuit takes that load off. The coolant only has to deal with engine heat now. Temps stay lower. You keep running.

When You Should Use This Delete

This is for people who already have an oil cooler kit and are still struggling with coolant temps on track. That's the exact scenario this solves. You've got your oil being cooled by a dedicated cooler already, so you don't need the factory heater doing anything. Pulling that coolant circuit out just removes heat load from your cooling system. If you're tracking the car hard and chasing every degree out of your coolant temps, this is the part.

When You Should NOT Use This Delete

Don't run this if you don't already have an oil cooler. The delete plugs the ports and seals off the coolant circuit, but it doesn't add any way to cool the oil. If you delete the heater without a separate oil cooler your oil's got nothing pulling heat out of it. That's a problem. If you don't have an oil cooler yet, get the Wunderladen Racing oil cooler kit or the tri cooler combo instead. Those replace the factory heater and add real oil cooling at the same time. The delete is specifically for cars that already have the oil cooling handled and just need the coolant load gone.

Do NOT Install A Thermostat With This Kit

This is critical. The oil heater delete does NOT come with a thermostat like the oil cooler kit does. That's on purpose. The inlet and outlet ports are plugged. There's no alternate route for the oil to flow through a heat exchanger. If you install a thermostat in this housing you'll block all oil flow to the engine because there's nowhere else for the oil to go. Do not install a thermostat if this housing isn't plumbed to a heat exchanger. That's not a suggestion. That'll starve your engine of oil.
