Genuine Acura NSX Timing Belt Adjuster (14510-PR7-A01) - 1991-2005

Doing the timing belt on an NSX is a real job. It's a mid-engine V6 and getting to the belt is most of the labor, whether you're paying a shop or spending a long weekend on it yourself. That's exactly why the tensioner isn't optional. It's the component holding correct tension on a belt driving an interference engine, and reusing an old one to save a small amount of money is how people end up doing the entire service twice.

Replace It With The Belt. Always.

This is the part of the job people occasionally try to skip, and it's the wrong place to economize.

Your tensioner has spent the exact same years and miles as the belt you're removing, under the same heat, with a bearing turning the whole time. A new belt is only as good as what's holding tension on it. A tensioner bearing that fails or a mechanism that stops holding pressure means belt slack, and belt slack on an interference engine means valves meeting pistons.

The economics are straightforward. The tensioner is a small fraction of what this service costs once you account for access. Reusing it to save that fraction, and then having it fail, means paying the entire labor bill again at best.

Do The Whole Timing Job

While you're in there, do it properly. Along with the belt and this tensioner, you'll want the timing belt (14400-PR7-A01) and the tensioner spring (14516-PR7-A00).

The spring is worth its own mention. It's the component that actually applies tension to the tensioner, and springs lose tension with age and heat cycling. A new tensioner working against a tired spring isn't doing its job at full capacity, so replacing both together is the only version of this that makes sense.

Also worth doing while you have access: the water pump, since it's driven off the same belt and reaching it later means the same teardown. That's the standard approach on any belt-driven engine and it applies doubly here given what NSX access involves.

Time Matters As Much As Mileage

Something worth considering specifically for this car. Plenty of NSXs cover very few miles per year, which leads owners to assume they're nowhere near due.

Rubber and bearings age on a calendar, not just an odometer. A belt and tensioner that are low-mileage but fifteen years old are past their service life regardless of what the trip meter says. If you can't remember when the timing service was last done, or you bought the car without records, treat it as overdue rather than assuming.

Use The Genuine Part

On a component this critical with access this expensive, the factory part is the only sensible choice. The tensioner has to hold consistent pressure and spin quietly for another decade or more, and NSX owners generally aren't the crowd that wants to find out how an aftermarket alternative holds up.

This is the exact part Acura spec'd, 14510-PR7-A01, and it fits both manual and automatic cars across the entire 1991-2005 production run.

Fitment

1991-2005 Acura NSX, manual and automatic.

Covers both the NA1 and NA2 chassis.

Who Should Grab One

This is for the NSX owner doing timing belt service, whether that's on schedule, overdue by time rather than miles, or triggered by a noise you didn't like. Get the belt, the tensioner, the spring, and the water pump together, do the job once, and drive it for another decade without thinking about it.

Fits: 1991-2005 Acura NSX (NA1 / NA2), manual and automatic. Part number: 14510-PR7-A01. Type: genuine Acura timing belt adjuster. Recommended: replace alongside the timing belt (14400-PR7-A01), tensioner spring (14516-PR7-A00), and water pump.
