HKS Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake - 2017-2021 Civic Type R
Dry carbon fiber airbox that encloses the filter entirely, shielding it from engine bay heat rather than just blocking one direction. Available as a complete kit with polished aluminum piping in two configurations, or as the carbon box alone for anyone already running HKS piping.
Three Options, Pick Yours
Work through it in this order and it's straightforward.
Already running the HKS Racing Suction kit? Buy the carbon box alone (70026-AH008). You've got the aluminum piping already, and this upgrades the heat shield setup to a fully enclosed carbon airbox. No sense paying for pipes you'd leave in the box.
Starting from stock and want no tune? The full kit with AFR (70026-AH006). The Air/Fuel Ratio Regulator corrects the sensor signal so your ECU reads what it expects, which means no recalibration and it helps prevent a check engine light.
Starting from stock and already tuned? The full kit without AFR (70026-AH007). Same hardware, lower price, but ECU recalibration is required. Not optional. Have your tuner account for the intake when you're on the dyno.
The Carbon Box Is A Real Cold Air Intake
This is what separates it from an intake with a heat shield.
A heat shield blocks heat from one direction. An enclosed airbox surrounds the filter entirely, which means the air being drawn in comes from outside the engine bay rather than from the hot air sitting around the turbo and header.
Cooler air is denser air, and denser air means better combustion. On a boosted engine that compounds, since you're feeding the compressor cooler air before it gets compressed and heated further.
The practical difference shows up on a hot day and on lap three, where a shielded filter is drawing progressively warmer air and this isn't.
Dry Carbon, Not Just Carbon
Worth the distinction, since "carbon fiber" covers a range of quality.
Dry carbon is produced in an autoclave under heat and pressure with minimal resin, which makes it lighter and stiffer than the wet layup used on cheaper parts. It also has lower thermal conductivity than aluminum, which is exactly what you want on a box whose job is keeping heat out.
And it looks like the real thing because it is. In an FK8 engine bay that's already visually busy, a proper carbon box is the piece people notice.
What The Piping Does
Relevant if you're buying a full kit rather than the box alone.
The factory FK8 uses a flexible corrugated hose feeding the turbo. Honda uses it because it's cheap and tolerates engine movement, but every ridge creates turbulence right where the compressor is trying to draw clean air.
The polished aluminum piping removes that restriction entirely. Smooth internal surfaces mean the turbo gets undisturbed air, which is where the flow improvement comes from.
How This Differs From The Racing Suction Kit
HKS makes both for the FK8 and they're not the same thing.
The Racing Suction kit replaces the flexible hose with aluminum piping and adds a heat shield. It's the more affordable entry point and it addresses the biggest restriction.
The full carbon kit does that and replaces the airbox with enclosed dry carbon, giving you proper cold air isolation instead of a shield.
Which is why the box-alone option exists. Start with the Racing Suction, add the carbon box later, and you end up in the same place without buying piping twice.
Fitment
2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R (FK8)
2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition
Full kit with AFR: 70026-AH006, no tuning required
Full kit without AFR: 70026-AH007, ECU recalibration required
Carbon airbox only: 70026-AH008, for use with existing HKS aluminum piping
Who Should Run This
This is for the FK8 owner who wants the intake done properly, whether that's all at once or as a step up from the Racing Suction kit they already have. Enclosed dry carbon keeping heat out, and a configuration that matches where your build actually is. Pick your version, fit it, and let the turbo breathe cool air.
Fits: 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R and 2021 Type R Limited Edition. Options: full kit with AFR (70026-AH006), full kit without AFR (70026-AH007), or carbon airbox alone (70026-AH008). Airbox: dry carbon fiber. Piping: polished aluminum, included with full kits. Note: the full kit without AFR requires ECU recalibration.
