Hybrid Racing K Swap Conversion Harness for 1988-1991 Honda Civic and CRX
If you're dropping a K-Series engine into your EF Civic or CRX, the wiring is the part that trips most builders up. This harness is built specifically for that job. The Hybrid Racing K Swap Conversion Harness connects your factory EF dash harness to an 02-04 K-Series engine harness and K-Series ECU, giving you a complete, plug-and-play wiring solution without cutting into your stock harness or sending in a core.
Why Hybrid Racing Builds It This Way
Hybrid Racing sources their connectors, terminals, and wire from the same Japanese manufacturer Honda uses for OEM production. That's not marketing language — it means the connector housings, terminal pins, and wire gauge specs are identical to what came on your K-Series engine from the factory. Every harness is machine-assembled and then hand-inspected before it ships. There are no soldered joints anywhere in the harness. Solder joints crack under heat cycling and vibration; this harness uses crimped, sealed terminals throughout, which is the correct method for an automotive environment.
Hybrid Racing has been making this harness for over ten years, and it's been used in thousands of K-swaps worldwide. If you run into an issue during your install, their tech support team covers swap-related wiring questions — not just "did you plug it in right" support, but actual K-swap knowledge.
What's Included
- 1x fully assembled and tested K Swap Conversion Harness (HYB-CWH-01-07)
- All connectors pre-installed — no splicing or soldering needed
- Clearly labeled wires throughout for straightforward routing
- Access to Hybrid Racing tech support for installation questions
Compatible ECUs and Engine Variants
This harness is designed around the 02-04 USDM and JDM K-Series engine harness. Compatible engine and ECU combinations include:
- K20A (JDM) with matching 02-04 JDM ECU
- K20A2 (USDM RSX Type-S) with PRB ECU
- K20A3 (USDM RSX base / EP3 Civic Si) with PND or similar ECU
This harness is not compatible with 05-06 K-Series engine harnesses, K24 engine harnesses, or their corresponding ECUs. If you're running a K24A2 or K24Z engine, this is not the right harness for your build. UKDM (European) customers using a UKDM engine harness will need to adapt the wideband O2 sensor connection to narrowband.
What It Connects
The conversion harness acts as the bridge between three separate wiring systems that don't natively talk to each other in an EF chassis swap:
- Your EF factory dash harness — preserves your factory gauge cluster, including tach, temp, and fuel gauge signals
- Your 02-04 K-Series engine harness — all engine management signals pass through correctly
- Your K-Series ECU — the ECU sees a clean, correct signal environment
You do not need to modify or send in your stock EF harness. Everything plugs in on both ends.
Installation Overview
This harness is designed for builders who are doing the swap themselves. You'll need your K-Series engine harness already attached to the engine, your EF dash harness in good condition, and a compatible K-Series ECU relocated to your EF's ECU mounting location. The conversion harness routes between the firewall and ECU area, connecting the EF dash harness plugs on one end and the K-Series engine harness and ECU plugs on the other. All wires are labeled, so you're not guessing which connector goes where. A full installation guide is not included in the box, but Hybrid Racing's tech support can walk you through any step of the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this harness work with a K24 swap in an EF chassis?
No. This harness is built for 02-04 K20A, K20A2, and K20A3 engine harnesses only. K24 harnesses and ECUs have different pinouts and are not compatible with this conversion harness.
Do I need to send in my factory EF harness?
No. Unlike some competitors who require you to ship in your OEM harness for modification, this harness arrives fully assembled and ready to install. Your factory EF harness stays in the car untouched.
Will my factory gauge cluster still work after the swap?
Yes. The conversion harness is specifically designed to pass the correct signals to your EF gauge cluster, including the tachometer, coolant temp, and fuel level. You won't lose factory gauge functionality.
Can I use this with a standalone ECU or piggyback tune?
This harness is designed around OEM K-Series ECU pinouts. If you're running a standalone ECU like Hondata KPro (which re-uses the OEM ECU shell and pinout), it will work. If you're using a fully standalone ECU with a different plug configuration, contact Hybrid Racing before purchasing.
Is this harness emissions-legal or smog-compliant?
Hybrid Racing does not make emissions compliance claims for this harness. K-swap legality varies by state and local regulations. Check your local smog laws before proceeding with any engine swap.
This harness fits 1988-1991 Honda Civic (EF chassis) and 1988-1991 Honda CRX performing a K-Series engine swap. Compatible with 02-04 USDM and JDM K20A, K20A2, and K20A3 engine harnesses and their corresponding ECUs.
Not compatible with: 05-06 K-Series engine harnesses, K24 engine harnesses, or any K24 ECU. UKDM customers will need to adapt the wideband O2 sensor connection to narrowband.
