Innovative Mounts AP1/AP2 S2000 RH Motor Mount Heat Shield

Bolt a turbo onto an S2000 and the right hand engine mount becomes the most heat soaked part in the bay. The turbine housing and the downpipe live right on top of it on both the AP1 and the AP2 chassis, and a mount bushing that spends its life a few inches from glowing metal does not stay a mount bushing for long. The Innovative Mounts S2000 heat shield, part 50750, is the cheap piece that keeps that corner of the engine bay from cooking itself.

What It Is and Why It Works

This is a single heat shield for the right hand engine mount, the passenger side, on the 2000-2009 Honda S2000. It covers the whole production run: F20C cars from 2000 to 2003 (AP1) and F22C1 cars from 2004 to 2009 (AP2), including the 2008-2009 CR. It is not a mount, and it is not a replacement for the factory exhaust manifold shroud. It sits between the mount and the heat source so the bushing sees moving air instead of direct radiant heat off a turbo manifold, a turbine housing, or an oversized downpipe.

The failure it prevents is specific and it is well documented on boosted S2000s. Polyurethane and rubber both go soft long before anything burns. What owners actually report is the passenger side of the engine sitting lower than it should, a mount bushing that has stretched and squashed rather than torn, and new clunks and driveline vibration that were not there before the turbo kit went on. Once a mount has been heat cycled into that state it is scrap, and you are buying the mount plus the labor to get back down there. Innovative Mounts built this part because enough S2000 owners learned that the expensive way and asked for it.

If your S2000 is naturally aspirated on a factory header and a stock exhaust, skip it. If there is a turbo manifold or a large diameter downpipe within a hand's width of that mount, buy it at the same time you buy the turbo kit, not after the mount has already sagged.

Fitment

Year Make Model Trim Engine
2000-2003 Honda S2000 Base (AP1) F20C
2004-2009 Honda S2000 Base (AP2) F22C1
2008-2009 Honda S2000 CR (AP2) F22C1

One shield fits the entire 2000-2009 run. There is no AP1 version and no AP2 version, and the CR uses the same part as a Base car. Left hand mounts do not get a shield because they are not the side taking the exhaust heat.

What to Know Before You Buy

Understand what you are buying: this is protection, not repair. If your passenger side mount has already gone soft and dropped, the shield will not lift it back up. Order the mount and the shield together and do the job once. Innovative Mounts sells right hand replacement mounts and full S2000 mount kits in both steel and billet aluminum, and if you are already pulling that mount out for heat damage, going to a stiffer insert while you are in there is the obvious move.

Innovative Mounts does not publish the material, the finish, or the hardware contents for this part, so plan on having common metric hardware on the bench in case the shield ships bare. That is a five minute problem, not a reason to skip it, but it is worth knowing before the car is on the lift.

The buyers who regret this purchase are the ones who bought it for a stock car. A factory S2000 exhaust does not put enough heat into that mount to matter. This is a forced induction part, and it is equally relevant to a K-swapped or J-swapped S2000 where a turbine housing ends up near the passenger side mount. If you are running a top mount or side mount turbo setup on an F20C or F22C1, this belongs on the same order as the manifold.

One last thing worth doing while you are under there: check the condition of the mount you are shielding. A shield over an already tired mount just delays a job you are going to do anyway.

1997-2001 Honda Prelude Type SH (BB6) H22A4
1997-2001 Honda Prelude SiR S-Spec (JDM BB6) H22A

Type SH and SiR S-Spec only. Innovative Mounts is explicit that this kit will not work on any other Prelude trim. A 1997-2001 Base or SE Prelude does not fit, and neither does a 1992-1996 BB1 or BB4 car. For those, Innovative Mounts points you at the 92-01 Prelude competition and traction bar kit, part 50110, which is a different product with a different purpose.
