Innovative Mounts EK Civic B/D 3-Bolt Hydro Mount Kit

Your 96-00 Civic is still sitting on factory oil filled mounts while a B18C makes roughly double what the D16 ever did, and you feel it every time you get on the throttle. This Innovative Mounts EK Civic B/D-series mount kit is the fix for EK, EJ and EM1 chassis plus the 97-00 Acura EL (MB), running a B-Series or D-Series engine with the 3 bolt GS-R style post mount and a hydraulic transmission.

What It Is and Why It Works

The factory mount on the timing belt side of the block is a rubber housing with a fluid chamber inside it. That fluid soaks up idle shake in a stock car. It is also why your engine rocks under load, which you feel as wheel hop off the line and as a lag between your right foot and the car actually going. Innovative Mounts builds these without the fluid chamber, using a solid polyurethane bushing in a steel or billet housing, so the engine stays where you bolted it and the power goes to the axles instead of into engine movement.

Firmer mounts do not make your car quieter. They make it louder. Every step up the durometer ladder puts more engine noise and vibration into the floor, the shifter and the seat than the OEM rubber did, and Innovative Mounts says as much in its own notes. The 60A red bushing is the street option and the one most people running a B18C1 or a built D16 should be buying. The 75A black bushing is for roughly 250 to 400 horsepower or occasional track use. The 85A grey is a race bushing for 400 to 500 horsepower. The 95A red is close to solid and belongs in a car you do not drive to work.

The steel kit (10051) ships as three engine mounts plus the driver side bracket, reuses your stock hardware, and per Innovative Mounts needs no hood notching or trimming. The billet kit (B10051) is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum and includes its own hardware, but there is a catch worth knowing before you click add to cart. To run the engine mount out of the billet kit you also need the 94-01 Integra B-Series timing belt post mount bracket, Innovative part B50150, and that bracket is not in the box.

The 3 bolt detail matters more than anything else on this page. This kit is built around the GS-R style 3 bolt post mount found on the B18C, B18C1 and B18C5. If your engine has a 2 bolt post mount, which covers the B16A2 out of a 99-00 Si, most B20 swaps and the D-Series, this is the wrong kit and you want the 2 bolt version instead.

Fitment

Year Make Model Trim Engine
1996-2000 Honda Civic (EK, EJ) CX, DX, EX, HX, LX B-Series or D-Series, 3 bolt post mount
1998-2000 Honda Civic (EK, EJ) GX B-Series or D-Series, 3 bolt post mount
1999 Honda Civic (EJ) Value Package B-Series or D-Series, 3 bolt post mount
1999-2000 Honda Civic (EM1) Si B-Series with 3 bolt post mount
1997-2000 Acura EL (MB) All B-Series or D-Series, 3 bolt post mount

Fitment here is about two things at once, the chassis and the post mount. Any 96-00 EK, EJ or EM1 Civic and any 97-00 Acura EL will take these brackets. What decides whether this is your kit is the bracket bolted to the timing belt side of your block. A 99-00 Si is listed because the EM1 chassis fits, but a stock B16A2 arrives with a 2 bolt post mount, so an untouched Si needs the 2 bolt kit unless you have already converted to the GS-R style 3 bolt post mount.

What to Know Before You Buy

Count the bolts on your post mount before you order anything. This is the single most common return on B-Series mount kits, and it is avoidable in about thirty seconds with a flashlight. Three bolts in a triangle means the GS-R style post mount and this kit. Two bolts means you need the 2 bolt kit, and no amount of persuasion will make these brackets work.

Pick the softest durometer that covers your power. Builders talk themselves into 95A because it sounds serious, then get a car that buzzes at 3,000 rpm on the highway and rattles the dash on cold starts. On a street driven EK with a B18C1 or a D16 turbo build, 60A is the right answer. If you regularly see track sessions or you are past roughly 250 horsepower, step up to 75A. Innovative Mounts will swap bushing hardness one level at no charge under its warranty process, so if you guess wrong on the first try you are not stuck, but you cannot return mounts once they have been bolted down and taken bolt impressions.

If you go billet, budget for the B50150 post mount bracket at the same time. Ordering the billet kit without it is the fastest way to have a car on jack stands waiting on a second shipment. The steel kit does not have that requirement, which is part of why it is still the more popular choice on a street car.

While you are in there, this is the moment to deal with the rest of the driveline mounting. If your hydraulic transmission is going into a chassis that came with a cable setup, you need the cable to hydraulic conversion actuator and the matching right hand bracket, not just mounts. New axles are worth doing while the mounts are out, and a fresh shift linkage makes the whole car feel newer than the mounts alone will.
