Hondata KPro V4 ECU System, K Series Engine Management
If you want real control over your K series, the Hondata KPro V4 is the move. It turns your factory OBD2 ECU into a fully programmable setup, so you can actually tune fuel, ignition, VTEC, and the stuff that makes or breaks a K build. Stock K20 with bolt ons, big turbo K swap, high compression NA, it all works if you tune it correctly. We run these exact units on our own cars because guessing with piggybacks gets old fast.
Why KPro is the Standard for K Swaps
KPro became the default because it works and every competent K tuner already speaks the language. Hondata installs the KPro V4 hardware inside your factory Honda or Acura ECU, then you connect to a Windows laptop by USB and tune with KManager. You can change fuel and ignition tables, set VTEC and VTC engagement, enable launch control, and tune live with the engine running. You can also disable the immobilizer, which matters a lot when your chassis and ECU never met each other from the factory.
Built for Real Tuning
KPro V4 isn’t a “flash and pray” deal. You get expanded tables up to 11,000 RPM and 60 psi of boost, plus high and low speed ignition and fuel tables with 16x20 resolution. That translates into cleaner part throttle, safer timing where the motor actually loads up, and less time chasing weird dips on the dyno. You also get multi cam angle tuning for VTEC and VTC, control over idle, IAT corrections, boost cuts, and support for stock or aftermarket widebands. PWM boost control output is on board, and the protection strategies cover lean AFR, overboost, low oil pressure, and low fuel pressure. That’s the difference between “one more pull” and towing home.
Datalogging and Mobile Support
The onboard 8MB datalogging records about 10 to 215 minutes depending on channels and sample rate. Set triggers so it logs only when you hit boost, a certain TPS, or a specific RPM range, then you review the data instead of guessing. KPro also supports Bluetooth and the Hondata Mobile app, so you can monitor and make changes without living in the passenger seat with a laptop.
Advanced Features for Serious Builds
You get launch control with anti lag, TPS based map lookup for ITBs, and flex fuel sensor support if you want E85 or blends. KPro also gives you gear based fuel and ignition trim, multiple general purpose outputs for stuff like nitrous or boost control, and dash output over serial and CAN. KManager includes base calibrations for common combos, they won’t replace a real tune, but they do get you started without wasting a day.
Choose Your ECU Core Option
You’ve got four ways to order Hondata KPro, depending on whether you send a core or want a core included.
Option 1: Send Your Own ECU Core
Already have a compatible ECU core (PRB, PND, PNF, PRA, PRC, PRD, PPA, or PPL)? Choose SKU: HON-KPRO and send your ECU to Hondata using their KPro ECU form. Hondata doesn’t sell KPro direct, so you buy Hondata ECU through us as a Hondata dealer, then your core goes to Hondata for the conversion. It’s the cleanest path if you already have the right ECU.
Option 2: Converted Auto ECU Core for Manual K Swaps (PND Auto)
Choose SKU: HON-KPRO-WITHECUC if you need a core and you’re doing a manual K swap, but you’re starting with an 02 to 04 RSX automatic PND core. This works, but there’s a real world trade off. You must run an extra wire from the ECU to the vehicle speed sensor because the automatic ECU never had that path. This core only fits manual transmission K swaps, it will not work for automatic applications. Hondata’s install info is here.
Option 3: Budget 5 Speed Manual Core Included (PPA, PND, PNF)
Choose SKU: HON-KPRO-WITHECUB for a 5 speed manual core from an 02 to 04 RSX Base, 02 to 05 Civic Si, or 02 to 04 CR V. For most swaps using a K20A2 style harness and conversion harness, this stays plug and play and keeps the budget reasonable. You give up reverse lockout and nitrous control provisions compared to the PRB option, but for straightforward builds it does the job.
Option 4: Premium 6 Speed PRB ECU Core Included (PRB)
Choose SKU: HON-KPRO-WITHECUA if you want the PRB core from an 02 to 04 RSX Type S. This is the “don’t make me redo it later” option. Since it came from a 6 speed car, it keeps reverse lockout functionality and gives you the most OEM style feature support. If you’re doing a clean swap and you want zero drama, get this one.
