PRODUCT DETAILS
If you're running a stock or lightly modded B16A2 in your 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si and your clutch is slipping, dragging, or just worn out, the Action Clutch Stage 1 Kit (ACR-0636) is the direct replacement that keeps your pedal feel close to OEM while giving you meaningful holding capacity over stock.
This kit uses a Steel-Backed Copper Kevlar Organic friction disc - a sprung organic design that absorbs driveline shock, reduces chatter on engagement, and breaks in smoothly. That makes it the right call for daily driving and occasional autocross, not a track-only aggressive disc that chatters every time you pull out of your driveway. Clamping force is increased over OEM, giving you the headroom to handle bolt-on modifications like an intake, header, and exhaust without slippage - without sacrificing the modulated engagement you rely on in traffic.
The pressure plate is a single-diaphragm heavy-duty unit. Paired with the organic disc, the pedal weight stays manageable - noticeably firmer than a worn OEM clutch, but not the leg workout that a Stage 2 or Stage 3 setup demands.
Action Clutch's Enclosed Spring Retainer
One specific engineering detail worth knowing: Action Clutch uses patented fully enclosed spring retainers on the disc. On conventional clutch discs, the torsional springs inside the hub can dislodge under stress and fly into your transmission or engine internals. Action Clutch's enclosed design prevents that failure mode entirely. Their engineering team carries over 60 years of combined experience, and every kit is inspected and certified before it ships.
What's Included (ACR-0636 Kit)
- (1) Sprung Organic Clutch Disc
- (1) Single Diaphragm HD Pressure Plate
- (1) Pilot Bearing / Bushing (when applicable)
- (1) Clutch Alignment Tool
- (1) Conventional Release Bearing
Fitment
Direct fit for 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si with the B16A2 engine. No modifications required. If you're unsure about compatibility with a swap or non-stock transmission, contact us before ordering.
Break-In Procedure
A proper break-in is required to retain your warranty, maximize disc life, and reach full rated holding capacity. Follow this graduated load schedule:
- 0-100 miles: Easy street driving only. No hard launches, no aggressive acceleration. Keep RPM under 3,500 and throttle under 30%.
- 100-300 miles: Normal street use is fine. Keep RPM under 4,000 and throttle under 50%. No boost (if applicable).
- 300-300 miles: Continue building gradually. RPM limit 4,500, no more than half-throttle, still no boost.
- 500+ miles: Break-in complete. Full RPM range and throttle available.
Avoid riding the clutch during break-in. Heat cycling the disc evenly is what builds holding capacity - repeated slipping or clutch-in coasting works against that.
Installation
This is a standard clutch replacement job. If you've done a clutch before on a Honda, this is a straightforward swap - no special tools beyond a transmission jack and a clutch alignment tool (included). Intermediate DIY skill level. Allow 3-5 hours if working in a home garage. Torque specs follow OEM Honda service manual values.
Best For
- 1999-2000 Civic Si B16A2 running stock to bolt-on modifications
- Daily drivers who want OEM-like engagement with more holding capacity
- Occasional autocross or track days at moderate power levels
- Anyone replacing a worn OEM clutch and not planning forced induction
Not Ideal For
- Turbocharged or supercharged B16A2 builds - look at Stage 2 or higher
- High-rev drag launches or repeated hard track use
Manufacturer part number: ACR-0636. Also sold under SKU ACC-CLK-01-77. Made in the USA. Backed by Action Clutch's standard warranty - valid only with documented break-in compliance.
Direct fit for the following vehicle:
- 1999 Honda Civic Si - B16A2 engine
- 2000 Honda Civic Si - B16A2 engine
If you are running a B16A2 engine swap into a different chassis or a non-stock transmission, verify compatibility before ordering. This kit is not compatible with the B16A1 or B16B - confirm your engine code if you are unsure.
Break-In Requirements
- 0-100 miles: RPM under 3,500 - throttle under 30% - street driving only
- 100-300 miles: RPM under 4,000 - throttle under 50% - no boost (if applicable)
- 300-500 miles: RPM under 4,500 - throttle under 50% - no boost (if applicable)
- 500+ miles: Break-in complete - full use available
Proper break-in is required to retain product warranty, ensure longevity, and achieve full rated holding capacity. Avoid clutch slip during break-in. Do not ride the clutch pedal, and avoid clutch-in coasting for extended periods.
Holding Capacity Notes
