GEAR SELECTOR SPRINGS

If you want a cleaner, more confident shift, start with the springs. Our Hybrid Racing gear selector springs bump preload and increase spring rate by about 82% over the soft factory hardware. That extra force helps the shifter snap back to center, which makes each gate easier to find and makes your Accord MT shifter upgrade, Acura TSX shifter springs, Civic Si gear selector package, or RSX DC5 detent package feel way more direct.

Swapping to these Hybrid Racing gear selector springs gives you sharper, more positive shifts without making the car annoying to drive in traffic. These exact springs come in every Hybrid Racing performance shifter cable kit, and we’ve run them for years on our own Honda K Series cars, from street builds to track abuse.

DETENT SPRINGS

Our heavy-duty Hybrid Racing detent springs handle the forward-back motion. These transmission springs increase preload and bump the rate by about 80% over OEM, which helps the selector fork lock each gear in place. The result: firmer, more defined engagements instead of that vague, rubbery feel you get from tired stock parts.

Think of it this way: Hybrid Racing gear selector springs tighten up the side-to-side motion, and these Acura TSX detent springs, Civic Si detent springs, Element MT detent springs, and other Honda K Series detent spring upgrade options tighten up the in-and-out. Install both and you’ll feel the change on the first drive—each gate is easier to hit, and each gear clicks in with intent instead of a guess.

Depending on the transmission, these K Series transmission springs can be more than 80% stiffer than stock Honda hardware. Use our K Series installation guide as a reference for Honda K-Series transmissions, and always fall back to the factory service manual for anything else. That goes for RSX DC5 gear selector springs, Accord MT shifter upgrade work, and any other K Series gear selector springs or B/D-series setups you’re wrenching on.

Some Honda gearboxes only use two of the three springs externally. For example, on a Honda B-Series, you’ll find two external detent springs and one internal spring. To change that third one—which controls the 5th/reverse gate—you’ll need to split the case. If you’re not ready to open the trans, you can still install the two external K Series gear selector springs or B-series springs and get a noticeable improvement.

On Honda K-Series transmissions, you’ll use all three Hybrid Racing transmission springs in this K Series gear selector package (SKU: HYB-BUN-01-85). Torque the K Series detent bolts to 16 lbf-ft (22 N·m / 2.2 kgf·m). Do that, and you’ll have a tighter, more precise shift every time you row through the gears.
