K&N High-Flow Air Filter (33-5044) - 2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5T & 2017-2022 CR-V 1.5T
This is the washable, reusable alternative to the paper filter your car came with. It drops into your factory air box with no modification, it flows better than the disposable element, and instead of buying a new filter every service interval, you clean this one and put it back. K&N backs it with their No-Hassle Lifetime Limited warranty, so realistically this is the last air filter your Civic or CR-V needs.
Buy It Once, Clean It Forever
That's the actual value proposition. A paper filter is a consumable, you throw it away and buy another. This is layered cotton gauze in a flexible frame, and it's designed to be washed, re-oiled, and reused for the life of the vehicle.
K&N rates it for cleaning up to every 75,000 miles under normal highway driving. Dusty conditions or a lot of gravel road time will shorten that, so check it rather than counting on the number, but either way you're servicing a filter instead of replacing one. Over the years you keep the car, that adds up.
Getting The Re-Oiling Right
This is the part worth paying attention to, and it's where people occasionally get into trouble.
The filter arrives pre-oiled, so your first install is just a drop-in. When you eventually clean it, wash it, let it dry completely, then re-oil it with the specified 0.68 oz (20 ml). That number matters. Over-oiling is the classic mistake, and excess oil can migrate onto your mass airflow sensor, which then reads incorrectly and gives you driveability problems that are annoying to trace back to a filter.
Measure it, apply it evenly, and you'll never have an issue. Eyeball it heavily and you might.
Confirm Your Engine Before Ordering
One check, and it's important because Honda used several different air boxes across these years.
This filter is for the 1.5L turbo specifically. It measures 9.875 x 5.438 x 1.5 inches, so if you want certainty, pull your current filter and measure it against that.
It does not fit the Civic 2.0L, the Civic Type R, the 2022 and newer Civic 1.5T, or the Acura Integra. Those cars use different boxes and different panels. The 2021 model year cutoff on the Civic matters too, since the 11th gen changed things.
Installing It
Straightforward. Seat the frame flat in the lower air box, make sure no edge is folded or pinched under the lip, and close the lid without forcing it. If the lid needs pressure to latch, something isn't seated right, so open it and check rather than clamping down on it.
That's the whole job. Factory box, factory intake layout, nothing else changes.
Honest Expectations
Worth being straight about what a drop-in panel filter does. This flows better than a restrictive paper element and it's washable for the life of the car. What it isn't is a power modification. Any drop-in filter working inside a stock air box is limited by that box, so buy this for the reusability and the better flow, not because you're expecting to feel a difference in the seat.

Factory engine airbox, 1.7 only, and it is not a cabin filter. The ES sedan and EM2 coupe share this panel across the whole D17 range, VTEC or not. K&N also lists 33-2192 on their 2002-2005 Civic Si 1.7 pages, which is the Canadian Si sedan and not the US car. The US Civic Si 2.0 (EP3, K20A3) takes K&N E-2429, a round filter 6.75 inches tall, and it will not physically sit in this airbox. This panel does not fit a Civic Hybrid and it does not fit a 1999-2000 Civic Si (EM1, B16A2), which is a different generation and a different filter. If you are not sure what you are holding, measure it: 12.5 by 7.75 inches and flat is this one. Anything round and five inches across is the Si 2.0.
