Competition Clutch Stage 1 Gravity Clutch | RSX & Civic Si

If your K20 is still naturally aspirated and your factory clutch is starting to slip under bolt-on power, the Competition Clutch Stage 1 Gravity clutch kit is the low-drama fix. It is built for the 2002-2006 Acura RSX Type S (K20A2 and K20Z1) and the 2006-2011 Honda Civic Si (K20Z3), the three six-speed K-series transmissions that share this clutch setup. This is the clutch we point people to when the goal is a daily driver with intake, header, exhaust, and a tune, not a build chasing boost.

What It Is and Why It Works

The Gravity series is Competition Clutch's entry-level performance line. Stage 1 pairs an upgraded pressure plate with a full-face sprung friction disc, which is why it drives almost exactly like stock. Per manufacturer ratings it raises torque capacity roughly 40 to 50 percent over the factory clutch while keeping stock pedal feel, so there is no chatter, no stiff left leg in traffic, and no on-off engagement to learn. The kit ships with the pressure plate, disc, release bearing, pilot bearing, and alignment tool, so everything wears together and installs in one job. A flywheel is not included, and this is the right time to add one, since the transmission is already out of the car.

The honest limit: Competition Clutch does not rate this clutch for forced induction or nitrous. If a turbo or supercharger is in your plans, skip Stage 1 and go straight to a Stage 3 or higher kit, because you will be pulling the transmission again otherwise.

This kit is for the six-speed K20 cars only. The base RSX and the 2002-2005 EP3 Civic Si use the K20A3 with a five-speed, and Hybrid Racing does not list this part for them, even though some outside catalogs do. If you have an EP3 or a K-swap with mixed parts, confirm your transmission before ordering.

What to Know Before You Buy

Break it in properly. Competition Clutch calls for about 500 street miles of normal shifting before hard launches or high-rpm slips, and skipping that step is the single most common cause of early chatter and glazing complaints on any performance clutch. Budget for a flywheel and fresh clutch hydraulics while the transmission is out. And be realistic about power: for a bolt-on K20A2, K20Z1, or K20Z3 street car this is our pick for keeping the factory driving feel, but if your plans include boost, buy the clutch for the car you are building, not the car you have today.
