AEM TRU-Time Adjustable Cam Gear - Honda/Acura B-Series, F23, H22
Want more power without swapping cams? The AEM TRU-Time adjustable cam gear lets you advance or retard your cam timing to optimize where your engine makes power. If you've milled your head for higher compression, you're running boost, or you've installed aftermarket cams, adjusting your cam timing can give you noticeable gains in horsepower and torque. The AEM cam gear adjusts in true one-degree increments with laser-etched timing marks, so you're not guessing where the cam's positioned. You dial it in, lock it down, and it stays there.
Why You'd Adjust Cam Timing
When you mill your head to bump compression, you're advancing the cam timing slightly because you're removing material from the head deck. That changes when the valves open and close relative to piston position. If you don't correct the cam timing after milling the head, your power curve shifts and you might lose power in certain RPM ranges. Same thing with aftermarket cams or forced induction. Sometimes advancing or retarding the cam timing a few degrees moves your power band to where you actually use it. An adjustable cam gear lets you fine-tune that without opening the engine back up.
True One-Degree Increments
The AEM cam gear adjusts in true one-degree increments. The timing marks are laser-etched into the gear, so you can see exactly where you're setting the cam timing. You're not eyeballing it or hoping you got it close. AEM includes recommended base cam settings with the gear to give you a starting point, then you can fine-tune from there on the dyno or with datalogs.
CNC Machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum
AEM machines the cam gear from 6061-T6 billet aluminum and hard anodizes the belt surface for durability. The gear teeth are precision-cut to reduce timing belt wear, which matters if you're actually driving the car instead of just looking at it. The included grade 8 hex bolts have integrated washer flanges to spread the load evenly when you torque them down, so you're not stripping threads or cracking the cam.
