This Innovative Mounts EK Civic billet driver side motor mount replaces the single factory unit on a 96-00 Civic (EK, EJ, EM1) or a 97-00 Acura EL, for B-Series and D-Series engines running the 2 bolt style post mount.

What It Is and Why It Works

Honda part numbers 50820-S04-013 and 50824-S04-013 are what this replaces, and if yours is original it is almost thirty years old. The factory piece is rubber wrapped around a fluid chamber. When it is healthy that fluid soaks up idle shake. When it is not, and on a car this age it usually is not, the rubber tears and the engine starts moving under load. You feel it as wheel hop on launch, as a clunk on throttle transitions, and as a shifter that seems to move on its own.

Innovative Mounts CNC machines this one from 6061 aluminum and runs a polyurethane bushing where the fluid chamber used to be. No fluid, no collapsed rubber, and the engine stays where the bracket puts it. The version stocked here uses the 60A red bushing, which is the softest in the Innovative range and the one they recommend for street cars. That is deliberate. On a single-mount replacement you are usually chasing a fix, not a race car, and 60A keeps the car livable.

Livable, not silent. Any polyurethane mount transmits more engine noise and vibration into the chassis than a healthy OEM fluid filled mount does. That is the price of the engine not moving. The 60A is the mildest version of that trade, and it is the right one for a B18C1 or a D16 street build. If your car is built past roughly 250 horsepower or sees track time, the same mount exists in 75A, 85A and 95A and you should ask about those rather than buying this one and hoping.

The bolt count is what decides whether this fits. This is the 2 bolt version. The post mount bracket bolts to the block under the timing belt cover, and if yours has two bolts holding it on, which covers the D-Series, the B16A2 out of a 99-00 EM1 Si and most B20 setups, this is your mount. If it has three bolts in the GS-R style pattern, common on the B18C, B18C1 and B18C5, this is not your mount and you want the 3 bolt version instead. Every 96-00 EK, EJ and EM1 Civic and every 97-00 Acura EL is in range, with either a manual or an automatic hydraulic transmission. The part that actually decides fitment is the post mount bracket on your engine. Two bolts, this mount. Three bolts in the GS-R pattern, the 3 bolt version. The steel equivalent of this mount also notes that it is used with the 97-01 CR-V and 99-00 Civic Si B-Series timing belt post bracket, which is the 2 bolt style, so if you are working from a bracket part number rather than counting bolts, that is your reference point.

What to Know Before You Buy

Count the bolts first. It takes a flashlight and thirty seconds, and it is the difference between a bolt-in afternoon and a mount you cannot return. Innovative Mounts will not take mounts back once they are bolted down and have taken bolt impressions, and that policy is enforced.

Then be realistic about whether one mount is enough. If the driver side mount failed on a 25 year old EK, the other three are the same age and have lived the same life. Replacing one firm mount into three tired soft ones concentrates load on the new one and you will feel an odd, uneven engine movement rather than a fixed car. Nine times out of ten the right move on a car this old is the full kit. Buy the single mount when you have already done the others, when you are replacing one that specifically failed early, or when you are matching a mount you already own.

The 60A stocked here is the street bushing and the softest Innovative makes. That is the correct choice for most people reading this. If your EK runs a built B18C1, a boosted D16, or sees regular track days, the 75A version of this same part is the better match, and 85A or 95A exist for race cars that do not get driven to work. Innovative Mounts will change bushing hardness one level at no charge under its warranty process, so a near miss is fixable, but two levels is not free and a wrong bolt pattern is not fixable at all.

If you are in there anyway, this is the moment to look at the rest of it. The post mount bracket itself wears and cracks, the rear mount and the transmission mount are the usual companions on this job, and a fresh shift linkage makes a bigger difference to how the car feels than most people expect after a mount refresh. The same mount is also available in steel if the machined aluminum look is not what you are after.

Year

Make

Model

Trim

Engine

1996-2000

Honda

Civic (EK, EJ)

CX, DX, EX, HX, LX

B-Series or D-Series, 2 bolt post mount

1998-2000

Honda

Civic (EK, EJ)

GX

B-Series or D-Series, 2 bolt post mount

1999

Honda

Civic (EJ)

Value Package

B-Series or D-Series, 2 bolt post mount

1999-2000

Honda

Civic (EM1)

Si

B16A2, 2 bolt post mount

1997-2000

Acura

EL (MB)

All

B-Series or D-Series, 2 bolt post mount

Chassis coverage is the easy half.
