This is the kit that closes that gap. Innovative Mounts built part 29358 specifically for the stock automatic Accord DX/LX chassis converting to a 1990-1993 manual transmission, and it bolts in without notching or trimming the hood.

What It Is and Why It Works

This is a complete mount kit, not a single mount. It replaces the mount positions that change when an automatic CB7 or CB9 becomes a manual car, and it re-uses your stock and OEM hardware so you are not chasing a bolt kit at midnight. The mount bodies are steel and the load path runs through pressed-in polyurethane inserts instead of the fluid-filled rubber the factory used. Innovative Mounts calls those inserts no-tear bushings and offers them in three hardness levels.

Here is the part the old copy on this page had backwards, and it matters more than anything else here. Solid polyurethane transmits more engine vibration into the chassis than the OEM fluid-filled rubber mounts do, not less. That is the trade. Your F22A stops rocking on its mounts under load, shift feel tightens up, and wheel hop on a hard launch mostly goes away, because Innovative Mounts deletes the damping oil chamber the factory mount relies on. What you get back is a steering wheel and shifter that buzz at certain rpm. Anyone telling you a 75A urethane mount rides smoother than stock rubber has not driven one.

Pick the durometer by how you actually use the car, not by how much power you wish you had. Innovative rates 75A (black) for roughly 250 to 400hp, 85A (grey) for 400 to 500hp, and 95A (red) for 500hp and up. On a street-driven CB7 with an F22A or a mild build, 75A is the one we would run. Owners across the Innovative range consistently report that 85A is tolerable at idle but gets genuinely unpleasant between about 1200 and 3000 rpm, which is the exact band you sit in during a commute. Save 85A and 95A for a car that sees a track or a strip.

Specs

further than the table can. First, the car has to have left the factory as an automatic. If your CB7 already has a five speed and you are refreshing mounts or going to an H-series, this is the wrong part number. Second, the transmission going in has to be a 1990-1993 F-series unit. If you are running a 94-01 F-series transmission behind that F22A, Innovative Mounts builds a different kit (29359) with different geometry. The Accord EX has its own kit as well, because the EX rear mount setup is not the same as DX/LX.

What to Know Before You Buy

Mounts are the cheap and easy end of an auto-to-manual conversion. Before you order, make sure you have a plan for the rest of it, because the mount kit alone does not get the car driving. On a CB7 or CB9 you are also looking at the transmission itself, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, clutch master and slave cylinders with the lines and damper, a manual-transmission starter, the driver-side axle and the intermediate shaft, the shifter assembly and cables with clips and pins, the clutch pedal assembly with both clutch switches, the brake pedal, a 30 amp relay, and a manual ECU with the clutch switch wire added. You will also be drilling the firewall for the clutch master cylinder and relocating the dash harness that comes through that hole. Budget a weekend for the mounts and a lot more than that for the swap.

You must have the Honda F-series timing belt post mount, part number 90008-PM3-000, to use this kit. It is not in the box and Innovative Mounts does not supply it. Source it before you start the job, not after the engine is hanging.

Innovative Mounts will not take mounts back once they have been bolted down and the bolts have left impressions in the powder coat, so confirm fitment before a wrench touches them. That is a manufacturer policy, not a store policy, and it is the most common reason someone ends up stuck with the wrong durometer. If you are unsure between 75A and 85A on a street CB7, buy 75A. Innovative will change bushing hardness one level under their bushing replacement process, but shipping mounts back and forth is a worse outcome than picking correctly the first time.

While the subframe is apart, look at the rest of the front end. Thirty year old CB7 lower control arm bushings, radius rod bushings and axle boots are all right there with better access than you will ever have again. A front torque mount and a traction bar are the natural next steps if you are chasing launch consistency on a built F22A.

Year

Make

Model

Trim

Engine

1990-1993

Honda

Accord

DX

F22A

1990-1993

Honda

Accord

LX

F22A

Two things narrow this down further than the table can.
