Bigger power, maybe a larger turbo on the horizon, and now your tuner's watching the MAF signal creep toward its ceiling at the top of every pull. That's exactly the moment this part exists for. The 89mm Race housing swaps in where your 76mm sits and gives that same factory sensor the room it needs to keep reading airflow accurately as the power climbs. It's the upgrade that lets your intake grow right alongside the rest of the car.

Read This First: It's A Housing, Not A Whole Intake

Let's be clear up front so nobody orders the wrong thing. This page is for the 89mm Race MAF housing and its matching velocity stack only. It's the upgrade piece for a Formula Intake you already own. If you don't have the Formula Intake yet, this isn't a complete kit on its own, and you'll want the full intake instead. What you're buying here is the part that converts your existing setup from Street to Race spec.

When You Actually Need It

Here's the honest truth, because the 89mm isn't a "more is better" part. The factory MAF sensor reads airflow as a voltage, and it taps out right around 5.0 volts. On the 76mm Street housing, a high-power FK8 will eventually push that signal into the ceiling, and once the sensor stops climbing, your tuner is flying blind at the top of the pull. The wider 89mm housing slows the air across that same sensor, so the voltage stays inside its usable range and the tune stays accurate.

We watched this happen on our own shop car. At 433.5 wheel horsepower, the 76mm Street signal hit 4.96 volts and quit climbing near redline. The 89mm Race kept that same sensor comfortably in range. A good rule: around 400 wheel horsepower, have your tuner start watching MAF voltage. Let the datalog make the call, not the dyno number by itself. And if your FK8 is stock or lightly modified, you don't need this yet. The 89mm gives you more sensor range than that car knows what to do with, so there's no gain in jumping to it early.

This One Requires A Tune

Important, so don't skip it. Unlike the 76mm Street, the 89mm Race can't just be bolted on and driven. It requires Hondata FlashPro or an equivalent tuning solution that can apply the matching MAF calibration, because the ECU has to be told how to read the new housing. There's also no complimentary basemap for the Race housing, and that's on purpose. Cars that need the 89mm almost always have their own mix of supporting mods, and no single file could cover every combination safely. Plan on custom tuning. If you need help finding the right calibration or a tuner who knows these cars, Hybrid Racing can point you in the right direction.

The Swap Is Simple

The good news is the conversion is easy, because almost everything carries straight over. You keep the same XLPE airbox, the same red filter, the same outside-air feeds, the same coupler, and the same factory Honda MAF sensor. Only the housing and its matched velocity stack change. You pull the 76mm housing, install the 89mm and its stack, move the sensor over, and get the car retuned for the new path. That's it. And if you ever want to go back, the reverse is just as straightforward.

Built And Proven, Not Guessed At

Hybrid Racing didn't arrive at this stuff casually. The Formula Intake came out of flow-bench work, sixteen material and shielding samples, and sixty-five dyno pulls before anything got called finished. The 89mm Race housing is the high-power end of that same testing, engineered so your sensor keeps measuring and your tuner keeps control right when the build gets serious. It's the part you reach for when you've outgrown the Street housing, not before.

Who This Is For

This is for the FK8 owner who's already deep in a build. You run the Formula Intake, you're making real power, and your datalogs are telling you the 76mm is running out of sensor range, or you're setting up for a bigger turbo and you want the headroom in place before you get there. If that's you, this is the housing that keeps your tune honest as the numbers climb. Swap it in, get it calibrated, and keep building.

Fits: All 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R (FK8), including the 2021 Limited Edition. Requires: An existing Hybrid Racing Formula Intake, plus Hondata FlashPro or an equivalent tuning solution. Includes: 89mm Race MAF housing and matched velocity stack. Reuses: Your existing Hybrid Racing airbox, filter, outside-air feeds, coupler, and factory Honda MAF sensor. Note: No complimentary basemap.
