It would make more power through the pull, bring out more turbo and induction sound under\n  throttle, look like it belonged in the engine bay, make the filter easy to reach, and grow with you as you\n  continue to modify your Civic Type R.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Three MAF housings, seven velocity stacks, several filters, flow-bench testing, 16 material and shielding\n  samples, and 65 dyno pulls later, we had our answer: the Formula Intake. It is our formula for what we\n  believe is the best intake for the FK8.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  The first question most people ask about an intake is how much power it makes. So we will answer it directly,\n  with three comparisons we ran on the same 2019 FK8, from the most dramatic result to the most true-to-life.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch4\u003eJust swap it: factory ECU untouched\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  We started simple. Factory airbox, untouched OEM Honda ECU. Then we installed the Formula 76 mm Street and\n  changed nothing else. Power jumped from 270.2 to 300.2 wheel horsepower, with no check-engine light and no\n  recorded knock correction. That 30-wheel-horsepower result honestly shocked us, because modern turbo cars are\n  tightly controlled and a bolt-on intake is expected to do very little. It is not 30 horsepower from airflow\n  alone. The changed MAF signal also moved the ECU's fueling and load calculations. The curves stayed close through the middle of the pull, then the Formula carried more power\n  toward redline. This is the\n  closest apples-to-apples comparison and the number to expect on a tuned FK8. The Formula averaged about 7\n  more wheel horsepower and 8 more lb-ft of torque from 2,500 to 6,800 rpm. Choose the 76 mm Street for a stock or lightly modified FK8,\n  whether the car still has the OEM Honda ECU or already has FlashPro. It can be installed without tuning,\n  although we strongly recommend FlashPro or another tuning solution capable of setting the MAF scaling\n  correctly. Choose the 89 mm Race for a higher-power build that needs more MAF sensor range so the ECU and\n  tuner can continue to measure airflow accurately. Both versions use the same factory Honda MAF sensor; only\n  the housing and its matching velocity stack change.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch4\u003e76 mm Street\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  The 76 mm Street is the right choice for most stock and lightly modified FK8s. It is the housing used for the\n  comparisons above and can be installed with the factory ECU. If the car has FlashPro, use the correct Formula\n  MAF scaling so the ECU reads the new intake path properly.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch4\u003e89 mm Race\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  The 89 mm Race is for higher-power builds that are approaching the factory MAF sensor's limit with the 76 mm\n  Street, or for cars being built around a larger turbo and future power upgrades. It can be properly tuned for\n  a lightly modified FK8, but it provides more sensor range than that setup needs. Around 400 wheel\n  horsepower, have your tuner begin watching MAF voltage. The datalog, not the power number by itself, should\n  make the final call.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  On our 433.5-wheel-horsepower shop FK8, the 76 mm Street signal reached 4.96 volts and stopped climbing near\n  the top of the pull. The 89 mm Race kept the same sensor within its measurement range. The Formula lets more of the K20C1 and turbo come\n  through: a deeper induction note as the engine loads up, crisper turbo spool under throttle, and a sharper\n  rush from the recirculating valve when you lift. It makes the car feel more alive when you get into it\n  without creating constant noise at a steady speed. At cruise, the extra sound settles back down.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Release the two OEM-style quick-release clips and one clamp to inspect, service, or replace the filter\n  without removing the airbox from the car. The red oiled-cotton filter is washable and reusable. Every 5,000\n  miles, clean it according to the service sticker, let it dry completely, then apply fresh filter oil\n  sparingly. The Formula retains the factory grille feed, then adds two lower inlet\n  tubes behind the bumper near the brake-duct area. Together, the two paths give the filter more inlet area and\n  another supply of outside air instead of making the entire intake rely on the factory opening.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch4\u003eBuilt for the Heat\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  We kept the filter inside an enclosed airbox rather than leaving it exposed beside the radiator and turbo.\n  The airbox is molded from XLPE, with a reflective shield on the side facing the turbo.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  We compared 16 material and shielding samples before finalizing the airbox. In that bench test, XLPE picked\n  up heat more slowly than aluminum, while the reflective material did the best job of rejecting radiant heat.\n  Those results led us to use molded XLPE for the airbox and place a reflective shield on the side facing the\n  turbo.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch4\u003eComplimentary Launch Edition Basemap\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Direct-purchase Launch Edition kits with the 76 mm Street include a complimentary locked Hondata FlashPro\n  basemap for 91-octane pump gas or better.
