The exhaust gases are trying to flow through a smaller opening which creates backpressure. Backpressure kills power. It makes the turbo work harder to push exhaust out. It reduces midrange torque. It costs you horsepower at the top end. PRL's front pipe uses mandrel-bent 3\" tubing all the way through. No step-down. No crimped bends. The tubing's smooth on the inside and the diameter's consistent. The exhaust gases flow freely from the downpipe through the front pipe and out the exhaust. You're getting rid of the restriction.
