Mechanical Engineer and Product Development Engineer Job Opening at HybridRacing.com!

Hybrid Racing was founded in 2003 as a performance automotive parts manufacturer and designer (you can read more about us HERE). We sell our products all over the world through hybrid-racing.com. We currently have 8 employees and were recently recognized by LSU for our growth on their TOP 100 Tiger owned business.

 

The first position we are seeking to fill is Product Development Engineer.

Job duties will include:

The Product Development Engineer (PDE) is responsible for taking a product all the way from a rough idea to a product that is designed, tested, and ready for production. It is the PDE’s job to make sure our parts are competitive (against our competitors) in performance, appearance, and cost. The PDE is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the testing of any products you design to ensure that the product is as reliable as possible before it goes into production. Hybrid Racing has released a vast array of products including wiring harnesses, shifters, engine mounts, engine internals, intake systems, throttle bodies, and many other products. It is the PDE’s responsibility to constantly learn and grow so that he/she is able to design new types of products so that Hybrid Racing’s product line can continue to grow.

Desired Experience:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar.

Solidworks Experience (Mandatory)

Experience creating and editing part documents (M)

Experience creating and editing assembly documents (M)

Experience creating and editing drawings (M)

Experience with version control software like Solidworks PDM (+ Plus)

Experience modeling designing solid features, surface features, weldments, and sheet metal features in Solidworks (+)

Experience designing parametric models (+)

Experience calculating and estimating stress on parts and assemblies

Any background in art or industrial design is a plus (+)

Hands on fabrication experience with metal is a must

Use of simple tools like bandsaws, chop saws, and grinders (M)

Ability to TIG weld is preferred but not required (+)

Background repairing, modifying and installing performance parts on cars (+)

Experience creating simple programs in Labview, C++, or similar software for use in controlling test rigs (+)

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with existing designs

Create designs for new products based on input from customers, sales team and other engineers

Create designs based on target retail costs and profit margins

Design components and assemblies in Solidworks

Perform tolerance stack ups on assembly designs

Create engineering drawings to aid in production and quality control

Work with manufacturing department to ensure design for manufacturability

Determine what types of testing a new part requires before it can go to production

Design and build test rigs to test parts for performance or fatigue, based on needs of project

Aid in writing assembly guides for new products for use by our assembly team

Aid in writing install guides for new products for use by our customers

Aid in writing product descriptions for new products for website

Work with customers occasionally to solve issues with products

The second position we are seeking to fill is Manufacturing Engineer.

Job duties will include:

The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is responsible for keeping the machine shop running smoothly on a day to day basis as well as planning and preparing for new production runs. On a daily basis, the ME will make sure machines like our mill, lathe, and bandsaw are supplied with material and continue to run as necessary. If any maintenance is required on any equipment, it is the responsible of the ME to either perform the maintenance or for more complicated procedures, arrange for a technician to come perform it. The ME must design new fixture plates for our Mill (using Solidworks) as well as perform needed maintenance on existing fixture plates. Additionally, the ME must design the tool paths for new products that have yet to go into production. This includes determining the best strategy for making the parts quickly and accurately, selecting the correct tools, and determining the proper feeds and speeds for those tools. The ME will work with the inventory manager to help plan upcoming production runs and material needs.

Desired Experience

Secondary education not mandatory if sufficiently experienced, but a technical degree or related field of study is a plus

Solidworks Experience

Experience creating and editing part documents (Mandatory)

Experience creating and editing assembly documents (M)

Experience with CNC equipment

Experience interpreting and editing G-code (M)

Experience with HAAS Mill and Lathe Controls (+ Plus)

CAM Experience

Experience creating tool paths based on models in any popular CAM software like MasterCAM, GibbsCAM, Esprit, HSMworks, etc. (M)
Experience with HSMworks (+)

Experience writing G-code Macros for operations like tolerance verification, automatic tool setting, etc (+)

Machining Experience

Experience calculating RPM based on tool specs and manufacturer recommended surface speeds (+)

Experience calculating feed rates based on RPM and chip load (+)

Experience selecting tooling for CNC Mills and/or Lathes based on desired geometry, cost, and cutting performance (M)

Responsibilities

Work with product development engineer to determine best way to manufacture each part

Design and fabricate fixture plates (using Solidworks) for any parts that are to be made by a Mill

Select any new tooling needed for new production runs on the Mill or Lathe

Design tool paths for new milled and turned parts using HSMworks inside of Solidworks

Work with inventory manager to determine what materials are needed for upcoming production runs

Estimate timelines for production based on parts and quantity needs supplied by inventory manager

Ensure Lathe and Mill run production runs during day shifts and fix any issues that arise during manufacturing.

Coordinate efforts of night shift machine operators and be available for them by phone if they have questions during their shift

Ensure proper operation and maintenance of shop equipment including bandsaw, laser etcher, tumbler, Mill, Lathe, Bar feeder, air compressor, air chillers
